Windows 10 will officially be released tomorrow.

It will take weeks to roll it out to those who've reserved it.

    Then others can upgrade.

Watch the Internet slow to a crawl tomorrow as ppl around the world download 3 gigs each.

I'm looking forward to it as I have three systems to upgrade.

I'll do one at a time and see how it goes before doing my main laptop still running windows 7.

    Will you upgrade?

Yes, I am, if you are windows user it would be silly to pass up the free offer.
plus the rollout is engineered to ensure the majority of people will upgrade and that in itself will save countless $$$ and headaches for Microsoft.
Not sure if corporate accounts are eligible for the freebie, it would make sense if they weren't.
I'll have to check with my friend and see if his clients network systems are getting the freebie or not.

The real question is does this mean that now Dude111 will upgrade his Windows 98 to Windows 2000?
God help him if he upgrades to Millenium.

ASAIF, all windows 7 and 8 will be eligible for the free upgrade.

Windows will be free there after, and all upgrades will be automatic.

But to buy Windows 10 to upgrade an older system will cost a bit over $100.
Problem is, it probably won't run well on systems before Win 7 unless they have lots of resources.

Windows upgrades must be free to end users as nobody pays for Android or Apple OS upgrades anymore.

from what ive seen in the insider preview, it seems a lot cleaner. the design looks like they actually took some inspiration from Linux and OSX in some ways.

windows 8 had a lot of cruft in it, and the interface I found to work against you sometimes.

windows 10 runs okay in a virtual machine, some bigger pieces of software can be slow that way but that could just be that particular software using a lot of resources (Atmel Studio) and Ive only ever run it inside a windows VM. I will say that Windows 10 insider seems to run much smoother in a virtual machine than does Windows 8.1

As a general rule I always wait at least a year, usually a few years before jumping on the latest OS bandwagon. I've tried to tolerate or get used to the annoyances and limitations of Win 7 64 bit for years but I always go back to XP or Win 7 32bit. I have older applications and equipment I will not go without and they do not work with 64 bit. I will also not tolerate an OS that blocks or restricts unsigned drivers in any way. So win 7 64bit is as useless to me as a Mac. Another thing I've grown to absolutely despise, partially from years as an IT technical specialist, is software fucking upgrades. I can't think of one upgrade that actually made my life easier, ever! Nothing slows down and fucks up a system like damn software updates, and automatic updates are the worst, stupidest fucking idiot crutch ever invented. I will hang myself from the nearest tree before living with god damn auto uprapes.

Whats left you cant do on your phone, or if on a platform on your desktop how is it going to make a diff whether its windows 8 or 10

Everything you just said reeks of stupid.
blaming the OS because you want to use outdated software is pretty weak.
Pretty much any application around can be made to work under Win 7 or 8 if you know what you are doing. Ones that don't are usually pretty shitty software to begin with.
The only reason to cling to an old 32 bit OS is if you have some legacy equipment that can't be replaced.

"I will not tolerate an OS..." LOL......as if anyone writing an OS gives a flying fuck what you will or will not tolerate...LOL
p.s....you can use unsigned drivers in Windows 7 & 8

all the things you are whining about cast some real doubt on just how much of an "IT technical specialist" you were, or you must have really sucked at it.
I feel sorry for whatever company/clients had too suffer through your ineptitude.

i thought one of the big rules of security was to update your software as often as possible since theres always the threat of 0-days? maybe not a big dealfor a PC but if ur system is online its best to do them as often as is feasible since as soon as a patch is released you can pretty surely bet theres some people trying to teverse engineer the patch you just installed before you even install it. if you can upgrade because it breaks existing software thats another type of compatibility problem. that software is using deprecated dependencies and obviously hasnt been maintained in a long time.

i get it though, its kinda a crappy situation. you get everything set up exactly right ... in an ideal world if you never change anything nothing ever breaks.

Windows updates always slow my computer down. 99% of updates are bullshit to protect Microsoft or other licensed services. A good IT tech does not simply jump on every update or new software revision. It is best to research and test to find out exactly what updates are for and if they are even worth the time. I may be old and jaded from years in the industry but I've lived through countless update nightmares. Some overpaid executive douche decides that the company needs a pretty new software update on all your workstations, as if you've got nothing better to do. So you have it tested on a few QC stations and it looks OK, pointless but OK. Then roll it out on 300+ workstations and within an hour crucial business apps are failing, 200 employees are crying about some option hidden in a sub menu and now they have to click their mouse 40 more times an hour, help desk has completely crashed and a network restore is going to take 4 hours and cost the company thousands in lost revenue... all just because some moron thought a new interface looked cool. There is a good reason why your bank is probably still running Windows XP or Server 2000, it fucking works! it's perfectly safe and time tested.

Then you obviously didn't do a very good job of testing it if your didn't anticipate and test for potential issues with other third party software.
again, it all still points to you being incompetent in your job.

Windows XP and 2000 perfectly safe ...LOL
do you have any iota of an idea what these institutions are having to go through in order to remain secure while still running on outdated OS or server software?????
you are not a very intelligent individual, are you?

you're probably one of these morons with a piece of paper from ITT tech that I have so many times had to help clean up the mess when they don't upgrade servers or workstations and generally don't know their dick from a floppy disc, although they both probably share the same degree of rigidity.

in addition a good IT tech would know how to configure the server to roll out the updates and exclude ones that are potentially problematic, such as hardware drivers from MS.
it isn't that hard to do if you know what you are doing. ;)
