They're songs the old folks used to play, and you have heard the song umpteen times and then one day you're just standing around playing on your pool table and you for some reason actually listen to the lyrics. And they can shock you or make you laugh.

Most recent for me was Dire Straights - Money for Nothing. I'm leaning over taking a shot and I'm like.. Did he just say faggot? That was a faggot. He said it again! And so you rewind and fair enough, little faggot with the ear ring and the make up. :D

Best shit ever. You hear it on the radio but i had never heard that part before. probably not a classy song for folks these days.

MK changed the lyrics 20yrs later when the fags were taking a flipshit and made FM pull it from the playlists. Now he sings "that little fucker"..

Someone once told me that there is a European release of the same song but the word used is "queenie".

    :D

Well the faggot makes me laugh. I think it's such a good line because I use the same term when I see earrings on guys etc. :D
So as far as I'm concerned me and that dude think alike or at least he did a long time ago. I'm listening to a best of I think. Lemme check. Best of 77-95. It's a good cd.

I'm sure that's on my cd. :D so I'll no doubt get to it. But yeah, I overlook this cd a lot. I know I like the sultans song but I skip the cd all the time because I'm like eh, not sure. Yet it starts with brothers in arms and it's always great and then I end up loving every song but it takes a long time to get in the mood.

you can get Dire Straits 6 albums together on the youtube.
Id have to say "Alchemy Live" is my all time favorite... those before Brothers In Arms .
BIA was used much in Miami Vice soundtracks. I really like that album too..
Ive handful of new DR covers but no true data time to upload em. saves you guys the trouble and earaches anyways. ..

Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard

    Lyrics:

The mama pajama rolled out of bed
And she ran to the police station
When the papa found out he, began to shout
    And he started the investigation

    It’s against the law
    It was against the law
    What mama saw
    It was against the law

The mama looked down and spit on the ground
Every time my name gets mentioned
The papa said, “Oy, if I get that boy
I’m gonna put him in the house of detention”

    Well, I’m on my way
    I don’t know where I’m going
    I’m on my way
    I’m taking my time
    But I don’t know where
Good-bye to Rosie, the Queen of Corona
    See you, me and Julio
    Down by the schoolyard
    See you, me and Julio
    Down by the schoolyard

In a couple of days they come and
    Take me away
But the press let the story leak
    And when the radical priest
    Come to get me released
We was all on the cover of Newsweek

    And I’m on my way
    I don’t know where I’m going
    I’m on my way
    I’m taking my time
    But I don’t know where
Good-bye to Rosie, the Queen of Corona
    See you, me and Julio
    Down by the schoolyard

I've always wondered what was going on in the school yard. But how was that explanation justified?

A couple of years ago, I was driving with a friend who was a deadhead (as am I...obvious by my avatar) and Touch Of Gray came on. He was singing along and sang this line "Eat your peas and get out".

Me: What did you just say about peas?
Him: Eat your peas and get out.
Me: How do peas fit into that verse? "I see you've got your fists out, eat your peas and get out"?
    Him: What do they say?
Me: Say your peace and get out!
    Him: Really?
Me: No, I'm just making it up to fuck with you. YES....really!

I remember that like it was yesterday. I still give him shit about that once in a while. He's been listening to the Dead for over 30 years. Come on, man! :)

    from wiki

In a July 20, 1972 interview for Rolling Stone, Jon Landau asked: "What is it that the mama saw? The whole world wants to know." Simon replied "I have no idea what it is... Something sexual is what I imagine, but when I say 'something', I never bothered to figure out what it was. Didn't make any difference to me."

    David Bowie ____ Five Years

A girl my age went off her head, hit some tiny children
If the black hadn't a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them
A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer
Threw up at the sight of that

how old is your dad. he's probably still a kid too.
actually the town where i grew up was too small to have a bus.
but there were three trains and 8 highway buses each way every day.
the nearest city that did have a transit system i thing the faire was a quarter.
i remember we rode the train to that larger town on my dad's pass. he was telegrapher/towerman/clerk.
his first car was the year i graduated high school, that was in 1966. gas was 35 cents a gallon and diesil was 20.

i don't remember what the movie house charged. i didn't go there more then a couple of times a year. but i remember there were always two full length features, a cartoon and a newsreal.
there was only one screen, but then the town was less then a thousand people.

In the Flesh by Pink Floyd

I heard this as a kid, so alot of it went over my head. It took me years after I initially heard it to realize all the derogatory words in the 2nd verse.

Are there any queers in the theater tonight?
Get them up against the wall!
There's one in the spotlight, he don't look right to me,
Get him up against the wall!
    That one looks Jewish!
    And that one's a coon!
Who let all of this riff-raff into the room?
    There's one smoking a joint,
    And another with spots!
    If I had my way,
I'd have all of you shot!
