I love comedians. They're so cool. The last comedy I watched was "The Heat" with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. They're both hilarious.

John Oliver can be funny sometimes. I kind of have to hold my nose while watching him though. It's like an indoctrination program with a few laughs thrown in to help it go smoother.

I agree with at least some of what he presents though, and in particular I like the fact that he did an interview with Ed Snowden.

Someone mentioned Redd Fox. Years and years ago, he said something like-- " white folks want us to go back to Africa--what the fuck am I going
to do in the the middle of a jungle in a Mohair suit!"

It may be partially in trouble as some tend to take it too far. I enjoy live comedy but I also find that some make it difficult to sit through a whole set as they are either monotonous on a subject or take to an extreme that I no longer enjoy.

Last Comic Standing is running here now. Usually some decent laughs there.

He was once asked why he kept on wearing that nasty old worn out hat on Sanford and Son. He said it was because it was the only thing from his Vegas act that the network would let him use.

Also, many of the small club live acts have fallen into a bad habit of picking on audience members too much. It makes me want to stand up and say, "Do you know this guy paid money to be here?" The victim is never going to pay to see that guy again, and may never return to that club. I mark those guys off my list too. Not funny.

    Indoctrination to what, critical thinking?

Is it seriously your position that John Oliver doesn't promote left-wing ideology, he just encourages critical thinking?

What ideological tendencys might you be referring to?

Are you insinuating John Oliver, the producers and writers of the show and all the people behind comedy central have some sort of... {gasp}... LIBERAL AGENDA? :yikes: [IMG][IMG]

I didn't generalize to comedy central, but yes. Hence my original point about indoctrination, to which you seemed to object.

Also Oliver's "Last Week" show is on HBO, not comedy central

    Oh, right...HBO it is.

Well, though I am fairly media deprived I have seen videos of the show. What you might see as an objectionable 'agenda' I see simply as comedians and entertainment people (artists) creating some damn fine entertainment and fighting the good fight in the process.

Go watch "The Red Eye", Faux new's late night comedy show if you want 'fair and balanced'...

I have also enjoyed some episodes on comedy central of Louis CK lately and yes he definitely can be funny. But is it really the topics of his content that is so great? I don't think so. It is how he put it. If we look at the content of his jokes it is merely the old stereotype stuff. Recycled in his own personal style (which is often good).

If anything is bringing comedy into trouble it is stuff like those roasts, and comedians that pick a certain side (political or not) and make a fanbase out of that :p If i look at everything comedy has to offer I definitely don't see it is getting into trouble because of any PC issue. Except if the issue is making lame jokes that are getting laughed at too hard because they only play with political INcorrectness (how daring, cool, but it also has to be funny, you know comedy and all) or because people agree with the agenda/serious issue behind it.

I guess he's going to be okay, but he got himself in some big trouble last year for his SNL opening monolog, the last time he hosted. He got booed by the audience for an unfunny series of jokes about sex with children, and Twitter really lit him up over it for days afterward. I'm not sure SNL will ever invite him back again.

I like his stand up material (except for SNL) but his weekly sitcom on FX is weird. It's a dark kind of humor that does nothing for me.

I saw him crack a few jokes about sex with children recently too. An even more daring subject for a father of course. Some will not dig jokes with that subject out of principal. But as long as it's actually really funny (which on itself remains subjective in the end) I don't mind if it is controversial. It can even be discriminating as fuck, as long as the joke is not just regarded as funny or good mainly because it is controversial.

Comedy is dead. The PC sensitivity training camps established by the political elite killed it.
