Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld have stopped performing at colleges, because they are loaded with politically correct liberals who have no tolerance for humor because every joke can potentially offend somebody. To an increasing number of Millennials, these are serious times for serious people; nothing to laugh about.

I find some of the smartest, most insightful people in American public life to be individuals who can simultaneously entertain and inform about serious subjects, which requires both the speaker and the listener to process ideas on two or more levels at the same time. This is not easy, and it’s good exercise for your brain.

Its a shame a flourishing comedian like Seinfield can run into the law and loosing his lifework to some bald greedy little gnome claiming he was humiliated by the series. I would loose hope earler, at once probably, what they was doing is the only thing they really wanna do nowdays, but i guess it wont pay off at the same level.

US Laws has fleece, time to comb em out?

People need to take more personal responsibility for being offended. It's gotten out of hand on college campuses, I agree.

Comedy is strong with those that can laugh at themselves and recognize their own foibles in the stories of comedians. Seems conservatives do not have that common quality.

    More's the pity--for them.

Conservatives? I find them to be so humorless they wouldn't bother attending such comedy performances. What Seinfeld has run into are a bunch of butt-hurt types who are offended by a few syllables and launch into tirades or even full blown protests over it. And that's not the conservatives.

Can you imagine today's whiners at a Sam Kennison performance? Andrew Dice Clay is not likely to make a comeback if he uses his original material. Even Dave Chappell has caught grief from whiners in recent years about this stuff. Americans used to have pretty thick skins. It made us proud and arrogant around the planet. Now we fall apart and take to the streets over what some lone asshole blurts out. Or worse we drive them out of work and stalk them in their homes. Yea, we're all so tolerant in the US when it comes to people saying mean and nasty stuff.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but calling me names totally wrecks me!

    This was one of Jerrys example's, as he explained on late night with Seth Meyers;

"They keep moving the lines in for no reason. I do this joke about the way people need to justify their cell phone: ‘I need to have it with me because people are so important.’ I said, ‘Well, they don’t seem very important, the way you scroll through them like a gay French king! ... I did this line recently in front of an audience -- comedy is where you can kind of feel, like, an opinion -- and they thought, ‘What do you mean, gay? What are you talking about gay? What are you saying gay? What are you doing? What do you mean?’ And I thought, ‘Are you kidding me?'"

It's not the only thing, but I gotta agree, the whole gay pc thing is way over the top

More often than not, I find stand up comedians to be straight up embarrassing. Trying to force a laugh from the crowd, I feel embarrassed for them. Not many are actually funny to me in reality.

The women are the worst. They are not funny. They try and make it all about sex and often come off as selfish prudes you wouldn't wanna spend a night with anyway.

And these stand up comedy festivals, they're 90% unfunny. There's a few good comedians out there, and a shit load of bad ones.

There are a ton of comedians I like but I think this is very true for a lot of people. And there are some funny female comedians, but they are too few and far between.

I can get the comedy channel where I live. I basically can stream a satellite package that my folks pay for in Australia and I use the mobile function on my iPad. So I don't know if it's the same comedy channel as America but anyway, it's mainly sitcoms and TV shows. Big Bang etc. but every Friday they do stand up nights. And they get all the daily shows which aren't that great either.

Some of the Irish guys are good. I like Chris rock. I like old Seinfeld. They make me laugh. I like anything sarcastic really lol.

I don't know, Daniel Tosh who appeals to millenials is pretty raunchy, with some of the stuff he says and does. Tosh recently wore a
Aaron Hernandez jersey (who is an ex football player convicted of murder) during a standup.

Bill Burr is probably my favorite standup going, he's kind of on both cusps or transition of the comedy style of Seinfeld and Chris Rock era and the newer 'alternative' comedy. He says some stuff that is not very politically correct as well. I'm not sure he does colleges but I know he's done some fundraiser specials.

I don't care much for alot of newer comedy, the alternative stuff in particular but it may be more difficult now to be a comedian in some respects now, with PC leaning audiences and the way information is distributed. It seems some of them try to appeal to the 'rise of the nerd.'

ha I watch so many comedians' specials online
and I love this 24/7 comedy radio station which cycles in a compilation through tons of comedians -rarely hear the same skit twice

Comedy Works and some other clubs in my area are daily hosting hilarious acts too.

IMO comedy is very much alive

Daniel Tosh. Ugh. 80% of the time he's battling himself between being queer or straight. Guys showing their bums and doing gay stuff has passed its prime, I just find him to be an idiot and also his TV show sucks balls too. Funniest home videos got that mofo covered with much more videos, better videos and you don't have to watch it 15 times while Tosh runs a few jokes that aren't funny over the clips. oh, and talks about banging guys.

The best thing tosh ever did was interview the stupid kid that said he liked turtles. Because I couldn't stop laughing at that for days. And then I'm pretty sure any web redemption, he just goes overboard with the theatrics.

Probably hypocritical of me to say but, small things amuse small minds I guess. :d

He can't get through three minutes without showing somebody throw up. I can't even sit through his pathetic show when I'm stoned or drunk.

It's the worst. The apparent success of Tosh is almost more worrisome than the the PC thing as it pertains to the future of comedy.
It's what todays millennial audience want's, I guess.

I've noticed this trend toward more infantile humor since Seth Mcfarlanes "family guy"

Prepare for more poopy-butt jokes and fag gags!

The other day the gf and I were talking about black comedians and or the lack of them. Where are the Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rocks, Bernie Mac.. The last of my favorite black comedians died a few years ago. Patrice O'Neal he died to early in life. I suppose its true that which burns the brightest ..
