Who are your all time favorite TV comedy characters, not actors or actresses, but the character.

    for me it is in no particular order;

    Ed Norton from The Honeymooners

Fred Sanford from Sanford and Son

Archie Bunker from All in The Family

Derek (Del Boy) Trotter from Only Fools and Horses

Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

    Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers

I know I'm forgetting some, but those are my top favs.

oops, almost forgot Moss from The IT Crowd

as I look at this I realize, man the '80's and '90's sucked for good comedy TV, except Only Fools and Horses.

    oh yeah...george from Seinfeld.

Doug on weeds (Kevin Nealon). I liked the running joke about how he thought every black man he met was U-Turn because he thought all black people looked the same

To me only Phoebe seems a great character where it comes to Friends.

From the top of my head:

Kramer, and George Costanza (Newman is a great classic too btw!) Georges father cracks me up all the time too, especially when he starts yelling.

Basil Fawlty of course. Fantastic to watch! Utterly brilliant comedy, which makes me think of:

    Edmund Blackadder :D

Dwight Schrute (I like that old guy in the office too, Creed. Often in the background or only a short appearance but he's generally hilarious. Manager Michael is near my top 5 too)

I think the squirl from Spongebob Squarepants is hilarious.

I like a lot of other shows but I guess it's more the thing as a whole or the combi of characters and not just a character in particular that stands out (otherwise I would have picked one from Simpsons or Futurama... among others :p).

Would never have thought of him from the top of my head (even googled to see which guy it was) but yes, he was the funniest guy in that show!

Todd Margaret is sooooooo good! The best train wreck comedy.

Dennis from Always Sunny also almost made the list. He is such a sociopath, but makes it hilarious.
