They want me to send them a photo of my i.d., birth certificate, credit card or some other things, before i can use my account again.
But in the evolving age of identity theft and hackers, is this wise to do?
Even if a Facebook employee is verifying it, how can one trust this faceless stranger whom i don't even know their name, or what exact department they work in?

Cut 'em loose and post in here. Or other places that don't require giving personal info.

I went to join a gym where the only way I could pay was giving them my account # at the bank for automatic withdrawal. 900 and some locations with hundreds and hundreds of faceless employees having access to my account? No fuckin' way.

That is really weird that facebook requires that kind of personal information. I've never had to send facebook my ID, and with their privacy policy and such, I don't think I ever would.

Are you SURE it is not a scam? It sounds like it could be a scam.

Sounds like you heard of this.
I don't want to send them even that. It seems pointless, waste of time for them. Many people use nick names, how do they recover their account i wonder. Facebook just needs to know everything about me, constantly asking me to update my profile.

Here is a pretty good forums format. But it's pretty slow for traffic for my taste. I guess people aren't into forums so much anymore, maybe for good reason that i am not aware of.

Seems weird to me as well. I heard a rumor that if someone reports you for having a fake profile to some nature, then Facebook will ask this, not sure how true that is.
I don't know if it's really even Facebook, could be a hack for identity theft or stalking.
Facebook should understand that, if it is them.
I just want some pictures back. They should warn me first, give me time to get my pictures and say goodbye to my friends. Not just lock me out without warning people before they join, or send a message to the masses if it's a new thing.

So you have legit been locked out of Facebook?

Were you using your real name there?

My sister doesn't use her real name on Facebook, and it super worried they are going to find out and do the same thing to her.

If you have been locked out of the site, and can't proceed until you send in ID, perhaps it IS for real.

they have different stages of lockouts

some just need to identify friends pics to get back in...some will require proof of i.d.

the problem with nicks is that you agreed to use true and full name when you accepted their terms of use

the automatic withdrawal thing is pretty standard. it's not like they're sending out a memo to every employee saying "here's our new members, and here's their credit card number." you probably have to write it down once on an application that gets locked away, and your info goes into a computer where all anyone can access is the last 4 digits.

    So lead them?

    http://ht.ly/Njo5O

It's more than a platform for sharing Cat memes and Selfies despite it being mostly used for that.

It can also be a means to sink earworms into the talking heads that make policy and even MIT is starting to grasp how it works

Screw Facebook. Tried it years ago and after 3 months deleted it. Lame as hell and full of security issues.
