What are most guilty of? I am most guilty of wrath.....no getting around my anger at times.....

Lust – to have an intense desire or need: “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28).

    • Gluttony – excess in eating and drinking: “for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags” (Proverbs 23:21).

    • Greed - excessive or reprehensible acquisitiveness: “Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more” (Ephesians 4:19).

    • Laziness – disinclined to activity or exertion: not energetic or vigorous: “The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway” (Proverbs 15:19).

    • Wrath – strong vengeful anger or indignation: “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1)

    • Envy – painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage: “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (1 Peter 2:1-2).

    • Pride - quality or state of being proud – inordinate self esteem: “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

arrogance indifference aggressiveness and bigotry that is not limited to racial are today deadly to humanity as a species. and i mean the first two, collectively statistically as a species. there's also a kind of collective narcissism of humanity as well, that imperils and ignores the very foundation of its existence.

i'm not trying to claim sainthood. that's not my point. but if we care about anything we need to look a little wider, at what we are together doing, and THEN at what part we are each playing in it.

i really believe we need to re examine what we are calling sins, and how and why we do. it is harm that remains the acid test of any sort of real morality.

especially the harm that is overlooked or dismissed, for reasons of familiar social assumptions.

I used to envy those who had control over their emotions until I realized it was my laziness that prevented me from achieving the same ends. So I went to excess in my lust for perfection and grew greedy in my desire to grow emotionally. When I finally realized that I was just playing the same song in another key, it really pissed me off, so I stopped.

Now I take pride in the knowledge that I have conquered my lower self and I am no longer subject to the seven deadly sins.

Probably gluttony--I've fought having an addictive personality for a long time. 12 years ago sex, chocolate, pizza, and weed were my weaknesses.

Mea culpa = wrath. But not in my dealings with people around me so much. It's politicians etc who make me angry.Instance of this just yesterday reading how the new govt. here will try to bring back hunting foxes with dogs.

I don't think the anger does any real good, other than to take me off on an unwanted excursion into negativity. But I think that sometimes, anger can be functional. My anger over fox hunting for example will mean I'll do anything I can to oppose it - which may not amount to much, but without the anger would I even bother?

From those 7 pride and laziness. But I don't see it as sinning. Not that it can be easy to do other people wrong by acting upon these feelings, but it all depends on the details how one acts upon their feelings of pride and laziness. To what extent we 'give in' to them. Sure, I give in to my pride and laziness too at times but rarely to the the extent I later feel guilty about it. It's my freaking life and lazy days are awesome.

I thought of the same song when I saw the thread title!

You're goin' straight ta' hell, missy! ( and I, for one, hope you're on the welcoming committee when I get there)

Oh wait--I'll be there before you most likely.

Greed...too much of something that lacked in my marriage. I am single...and enjoying making up for lost time. Although, for me, I have to get it under control.

Probably all of them at any given point in my life.

I'm a fairly bad person, so... you know committing a sin comes with territory.

sin is not my religion, so to me, this makes sense only to those who share the world view they associate with it.

i see this nonsense as distracting people from how important consideration is, and how truly evil aggressiveness really is.

and by evil of course, i mean the real most harmful and distructive force in all of existence.

so all these little harms, to pick them out by themselves, is a way of hiding the real picture of how real life works.

its a twisted little parlour game, like is being played with it here.

Maybe that is why you are an artist? Van Gogh and John Lennon were troubled souls.

Perhaps not such a bad thing...

From Notes From The Underground, Fedor Dostoevsky :)
