I'm advocating intellectual honesty about our current predicament.

I want equal opportunity for all people. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY, not forced equality of results. We are seeing public policy trying to enforce the latter. Wake the fuck up.

    http://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-adv-asian-race-tutoring-20150222-story.html#page=1

    Blacks - 230 point boost
    Hispanics - 185 point boost
    Europeans - 0 point boost
    Asians - 50 point PENALTY

But hey, your ancestors were evil, take our word for it. You deserve this. Everyone will be the same. You will all be the same. Yessssss, excccccellent.

It's almost enough to turn me against white people. ;) Ya know?

    Useless theories.

Bullfuckingshit. We're nowhere close to equal opportunity yet.

When and if we get there, I'll be happy.

You are totally, completely, utterly, conflating equality of opportunity with equality of result. This is a gross exhibition of certainty without any semblance of logical argument.

Let me be clear, I think black people deserve every single right that white people or asian people have. I think Whites and Asians were the beneficiary of an evolutionary bottleneck purely by luck, and we were exactly the same as our African cousins however many thousands of generations ago.

This is not an unchangeable condition. This deficit is not permanent, but it is very, very stubborn. It cannot easily be moved and in fact, when left unchecked it drags everyone in the wrong direction. Stupid people tend to have a lot more kids than smart people. The refusal to address that snowball is about the least compassionate thing anyone can do. We have to think our way out of this, not feel our way out.

Your feelings tell you to eat as many calories as possible. Your feelings tell you exercise hurts and you should always prefer rest instead. You people, you liberals let your feelings lead you into a deeper and deeper hole. Do not be so quick to value your feelies over rational argument.

    Ugh.

This thread is absolutely disgusting on both sides of the argument. On one hand you have the bleeding hearts who think more government socialism is the solution to so-called "inequality." On the other, you have people who demonize an entire race of people as inferior because of the color of their skin, when clearly there are some extremely intelligent people of color who have made a contribution to the world. People use the hood and hood mentality as a justification to paint ALL black people with a broad brush. Fuck that! If some or even most black people act ignorant, it's because of their overall situation and not simply because they're black. At the same time, I do not see white people in general as creating this situation, but rather the system itself. White people are simply given the blame and made to feel guilty. They walk on eggshells every time a black person is around and don't even know how to act around them. These people, in my opinion, are as racist as people who openly use the word ****** out of hate. Both are focused heavily on the artificial construct which is race, and keep the race issue alive with their endless bullshit.

People piss me the fuck off.

In short, it boils down to the fact society is cutting fat from the wrong end of the steak.

'Demonizing' is much lighter than I'd put it, however. Over the last century, we've managed to imprison our common sense - and many African Americans, too, for whatever reason. Some will tell you because some Anglo-Saxon ancestor said so. Others may tell you because my daddy's daddy was a black hater, so I must continue the tradition.

Since media has provided all race a preponderance of evidence that police brutality is to blame, why do white folks feel obligated to pull the bullshit race card again? I'll tell you why - because many aren't comfortable enough in their own skin to admit 'hey, this black man or woman may actually be smarter than me. They may actually want to be my friend.'

I agree. There's a growing aroma of ingorance polluting my oxygen.

Of course, those images are disturbing, N........I want to clarify...In no way am I in favor of any violence......I think I may have been trying to offer some sort of understanding, though, about the riots.......I seek to understand always.......

They were mainly gangs that started the riots....any gangs are no good....look at what some of the white motorcylce gangs need to do to gain entry...i saw a show about that once....scary.......to murdering someone for some of them.....?

It is that gang mentality that often takes over the group and has a mind of its own...other people in the riots, may have just jumped on the bandwagon to take advantage...who knows....could be lots of reasons......

I also think there are many types of intelligences....the learned type.......I learned all that was in that encyclopedia intelligence...and a creative intelligence that comes from creative thinking and thinking outside the box. I think that is an intelligence that is not learned but innate......

I am sure some of the gang members are intelligent.....but maybe not care enough anymore about their lives to make right decisions....there could be many explanations for things....and no, I am not excusing any violence that occurs ever......just trying to understand it.

You are completely pulling that out of your ass.

You're also completely off topic, no longer making any attempt to relate any of your points to police brutality in Baltimore.
Nobody cares what you think of me.

Well, that would be hard to pinpoint, I believe. I mean, if one 65 year old retiree throws a Molotov cocktail but three members of a local gang throw the first punch, who started the riot?

The important thing to remember is we're really not trying to focus on the destruction - but the underlying issue that is leading to numerous Fergusons sprouting up across the country - which is excessive, unmerited police brutality which has blown up into a race debtate (although, statistically speaking, whites are gunned down or beat down by police more than blacks, Asians, Mexicans).

Yes, which was my first offer of an explanation...a pressure cooker that has been building and building....white cops kill black man unnecessarily.......how many times now?

and I am not a bleeding heart to be clear about that, as well.....Without complete understanding of anything.....it is a dead end we travel.

In the near future, watch out for similar problems in Philadelphia (north side), Washington DC (east side), Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, and of course Chicago (south side) as always. All the prime ingredients for disaster are present in all these places, and others. In my state (NC), I'd say Greensboro is at the highest risk.

I definitely agree. Figured Charlotte would be first, though, or pretty much anywhere in Mecklenburg County.

Rationalizations are easy to make when the news runs the same 15 clips over and over. Especially when the 'commentary' continues to saddle the blade between fair criticism and straight up racism. The amount of racism that has surfaced from people on this subject, is just disgusting. There is no 'well they' or 'you aren't looking at the big picture here'. That is something all sane people can get along with, at least I hope.

We have to acknowledge that some police officers have a disproportionate idea of how much power they actually have on the street. Not just with minorities, but all the desperates who find stealing more appealing than an attempt to ascend the mountain of capitalism. The desperation and disparities will not go ignored for much longer. Revolutionary reform is needed. Its obvious in the results. Its needed now and almost everywhere. Cultural evolution might have some growing pains but a tall look in the mirror years from today, will remind us that what we came to understand wasn't easy. It was necessary.

  16. To me the whole thing just seems like a way for the police to flex their muscles. And the media perpetrates it, like "Ooh we should all be so scared...why are they acting this way"

I'm not fooled. Truth is humanity has evolved, but we're all supposed to be duped into thinking maybe we haven't. All this is is a fucking molehill getting turned into a mountain. The world has changed. They think they'll sow confusion and reap from it, but it just ain't gonna happen. Just another comedy from the proper perspective. (I mean their futility is funny, not the violence.)

My prediction is Greensboro first, and Durham second. Racial issues in Charlotte seem to be confined pretty well to the west and north sides, while problems in Greensboro and Durham penetrate into the heart of downtown. Like Charlotte, Raleigh has a lot of meth heads hanging around the bus station, but the police seem to be able to contain them. I don't think Greensboro has ever fully recovered from the racial violence of the sixties, and the constant presence of the civil rights museum downtown prevents a lot of people from moving on.

For those who care about statistics, I'll give you one that is relevant to our current situation. A random black child who attends a predominantly white public school is likely to have a much better adult life than a black child that goes to a mostly black school, no matter how you measure it; average income, highest educational level achieved, likelihood of incarceration, you name it. Until this difference goes to zero, public education is not providing the level playing field that is needed so badly.

It's not just an issue of fairness to individuals, but impacts our competitiveness in the global economy.

    *Time out*

I know this is a touchy subject, and one with conflicting opinions.

As such, please avoid attacking other members with slanderous verbiage. Friendly banter or heavily heated conversation is one thing; calling individuals "intellectually inept" or similar choice words lends nothing to the conversation and is literally moot.

I don't know if there are any baseball fans on the forum. I'm going to rant a minute. Apologies in advance for any ignorance as I've been drinking a bit. A couple pints.

I watched the whole thing. The entire time, I kept thinking about why they decided to do it this way and tried to understand it. Why the fuck don't they just let the fans in?! They're right outside the fucking gates. Its obvious they're wearing orange. They want to see the game and support their team like we baseball fans do. On tiny seats with dead legs and we take it in stride. Its all so worth it when our team connects with some authority. But that game. I don't know what my opinion is worth but that game was terrible. Just the most awkward, stupid, spit on the shoes of all baseball fans why don't you? The music, the announcement of players names, gah. Its all so fucking stupid without the fans. The silence too. The dead silence. Just make sure they have tickets and get some of the 1000 national guardsman or the tons of statewide support you requested to pull a light security detail. I'm not an expert, I don't claim to be but something tells me it wouldn't have been that hard to do.

Forcing them to stand at the gates. I'll bet they had tickets too. Pssh. What country is this? I loved when the orioles player tossed the ball up into the empty seats. That pretty much said it all. Really poignant moment. One for the books to be sure. I teared up a bit, I'm serious. Maybe I take this sport a bit too seriously, I mean my favorite team wasn't even playing in this game. But it still made me empathize with the fans of the orioles and made me ask myself...what if they did this at Wrigley field? Or at our new field for the cactus league in the preseason? I would be livid, probably. The protests had nothing to do with baseball, I don't care how close it was to the area of protests. End.
