They only pay airfare and hotel, so basically, you'd just be getting a free vacation. Would you do the show?

Make an ass of myself on national TV? No. I knew some people who went on that show, and they were given airfare, hotel, and $700.

Long time no post, welcome back! :)

Is this a hypothetical, or are we helping you make the decision?

    Would I do the show?

Hell yes I'd do the show. They'd give me a made up problem with a made up person and it's all scripted like a wrestling match. :)

No, I would not go on national TV to make an ass of myself. That's what the internet is for.

I don't know much about the show, but the formula seems to be this: they put people on who are in some situation that makes them a spectacle. Then they bring on someone else who is somehow connected to the first person, and is infuriated by them. A brawl ensues.

It all seems really degrading and trashy. And all the worse if it conditions people to think that this sort of behavior is socially acceptable. I can't help but wonder if all the brawls posted on youtube were in some way inspired by Jerry S.

There was a girl years ago from our town who went on that show (I think it was that show anyway...I didn't actually watch it myself). She was 16 or 17 and I guess she went on the show with super skimpy clothes on and was a total rebel saying she would dress like a slut if she wants to, etc, etc. Her family was trying to get her under control...whatever. The thing is...we all knew her and she never dressed like that or acted like that.

And not a single person on any episode I've seen can actually fight. Not the ladies or the men. So aside from looking like asses...they also look like wimps. :)

It's not a surprise that people make shit up to get on the show. My guess is the show in not too picky about fact checking.

is jerry springer still on tv? i thought that show was done years ago.

no, i would not go on it. that would be about the same as those people who post about their drug use on facebook, don't make their pages private, and then can't figure out why nobody wants to hire them.

Nope. Most (if not all) his guests are either attention whores and/or certifiable. I tend to be more eccentric than insane. Plus I think there's a lot to be said for keeping a low profile :)
