19th century had too much about today's technology.

every century's technology probably derives a lot from the previous centuries' technologies. it's not like it comes out of nowhere.

But industrial revolution makes 19th century different. Sound recorder, camera, telephone, train, modern automobile ( Karl Benz), things that work with electricity. 19th century was special. Late 19th century's industrial revolution were based on electricity. 19th century was amazing :D

It was mixed, like all other historical periods. Technological advances were made, but the way in which they were rolled out led to extremely harsh and often dangerous conditions for millions of workers in the new industries, including child labour.Factory owners and entrepreneurs amassed vast wealth, whilst workers languished in poverty in filthy disease ridden and crowded conditions. It also led to enormous pollution and devastation of the environment in Britain where it first got going.

And not all the technologies were good. It was the 19th c that saw big advances in artillery, and the invention and first use of the machine gun - needless to say by British forces.

For many indigenous cultures the 19th c was a very black time - from America to Australia to Africa.

ooops. ah hammm. that's 20th century. i know its wierd but the century number is one more then the actual century date. the 19th century was coal and steam and steel, and BEFORE world war ONE. some of those things were toward the very end of it. i mean we would have had them a thousand years earlier if it hadn't been for religous fanatics effing up real science for that thousand years, resulting in the 20th century being a frantic and herculean effort to make up for the loss. and yes, if population hadn't already been increasing and still continuing to, then and since, well at 1830 population levels steam and coal might have remained a fine way of doing things, if population had remained at those or lower levels.

19th century innovation is really fascinating. partially because a lot of it was origeonal, but also be cause much of it was something that someone of ordinary intelligence to readily reverse engineer, and actually understand, without a whole lot of advance mathimatics and physics. and of course at the same time, it actually did stuff. things that seem that simple to most of us today, actually doing things. not always safely, but they really weren't ALWAYS blowing up. just every once in a while.

i'm more interested though, if scientific thought hadn't been repressed, so that the 11th century could have been technologically the 19th, and where we would be now, with less frantic but steady evolution of technologies. i think we would have visited planets of other suns by now. and we might have sensibly bypassed what we are so disasterously now, doing to our own environment, that our own very existence, ultimately depends on.

You are wrong. Times between 1870 and 1910 was about electricity, not steam engine! And camera, telephone, things like that are very facinating inventions. 19th century has seen 2 different industrial revolutions. First one was on steam engine and second one is on electricity. Since my english is not so good, I can't write evrrything. I wrote shortly. In 20th century, 19th century's inventions were improved.

New technology comes from applying old technology in new and interesting ways. Computers are just extremely complex electrical circuits. Electrical circuits have been around over two centuries, computers nearing close to a century now ... the internet is just a bunch of computers connected together. The internet and telephone network arent really all that different. Smart phones are just small computers, "dumb" cell phones are computers too ... microwave ovens arent much different than radio antennas, the timer on a microwave is just a small embedded computer.

Good point, with this in mind it should be mentioned that the first synthetic drug was discovered in the 19th century, which of course has led us to discover the wonders of synthetic weed today.

But tell me from what tecnology camera came? There was no camera and it was invented in 19th century. Telephone was invented in 19th century but mobile phone was invented in 20th century. If you say mobile phone came from telephone, what did telephone come from? There was no such thing as telephone and it was invented in 19th century. And Today's Music Players, I say they came from gramophone which was invented in 1887. If you ask what gramphone came from. It came from phonograph which was invented in 1877 ( Just 10 years before Gramophone). It is still 19th century. What did phonograph come from? It was invented. There was no such thing as "record and listen"

optics and chemistry. i think your splitting hairs a bit, gramophone and photonograph are not all that different at all, and in my eyes the telephone is in the same ballpark as those.

But it was not a invention until it became a camera. Also Both gramophone and photograph is already 19th century. There was nothing before phonograph, record and listen technology was invented in 19th century. Telephone, camera, record and listen tecnology, things like that were original inventions which happened in 19th century.
