    Hi gang,

I was wondering if you think I should live out loud and open up to people about my sexuality which is important to my identity and other things like my atheism and stuff. I'm afraid to do so because I'm afraid to get lectured, harassed, bullied, controlled, have people impose their religion on me, and possibly even get raped.

    Thanks!

I think on a 'need to know' basis works best.

If it feels right, I am also going through similar thing but have come to be comfortable that not everyone needs to know.

What's a need to know basis?

It's probably best to keep passionate opinions to oneself, unless you know for sure that other people agree with them. It's useless to try and talk about things with people if they don't agree with them, and don't want to agree with them. It leaves both parties with a bad taste in their mouth.

I think if a person matters to you and the info would matter to them, then yes.

Otherwise, it's not necessary to advertise details to everyone you might only have a casual acquaintance with.

If these things...atheism and stuff were actually a part of your identity, you wouldn't have to open up, you'd be living it. It would be such a part of you, there would be no reason to think anyone could impose anything on you. Ya can't be imposed upon unless you allow it. And...I have to ask...who would try and control you? And!!! Why in the world would you think you views open you up to rape? and by whom?

eh when it comes to topics like religion, and belief, to each his own, everyone's got an opinion.

But sexuality isn't that weird, best just to suround yourself with people you understand anyways

No. Your sexuality is your business, no one elses. Same with religion. The more you open up to people th more likely you will be ridiculed or attacked (at some point). So unless you've got the balls to tell them to go fuck themselves, don't be open. Not about those anyhow.

It depends. I am both and athiest and a liberatarian/ancap so I have really unique opinions. I personally love the fight and love my individuality so if some one ask it I answer or if it pertains to the conversation I bring it up and make it clear. If you are frightened by it open up to friends first and then pick and choose your fights. Don't ever let the overwhelming masses scare you away from being you. If "you" is being loud and proud about it go at it. If "you" is being quiet and reserved about it fine but don't hide it. We have far to much in common that it's kind of boring. The things that make you different are far mor interesting. Don't ever let the dumbs masses scare you, you are not alone in your opinions and you would be suprised to know who will stand up with you or agree with you. If nothing else develope some thick skin and only let the words of those most important to you have weight.
