I've always had long hair - 'Back in the 60's', folk used to say I looked like a Rolling Gnome (although I may have misheard them) :)

I personally know a few facts , this from an encounter in the forest and over a period of several weeks .

A gnome is very tidy of habit and in a precise way .
He is content in the company of peaceful hippies , yet
    not forwardly so .
Movement through the forest is quiet as possible . Footsteps
    are carefully placed .
He either has a small spoon , or perhaps it is a well-shaped
    fingernail he employs .
He will serve himself from your pot of porridge when set out to cool
overnight . Serving him will just not do .

As he came to my camp by darkness , I did hear him/not see him . However ,
a friend did report of one morning she saw a gnome sitting upon a log
near-by , just across the little creek .

I have an irrational fear of them. I'm Gnomeophobic.

Maybe you just saw a few bad examples, JC. Some can be real mischievous.

Gnomes are hideous fictions belonging to a tired and dissipated fantasy realm that I have no real time left to entertain anymore just as much as fantasy art, wizards and witches, all that kind of juvenile hocus pocus which I have determined is a sad and vacuous replacement for religious sentiment and longing for an ulterior plane of imagined and virtual replacement of the far more interesting and satisfying contemplation of the quotidian everyday metaphysical and self-illuminating nature of a numinous, sub liminal multiverse of drug-addled,and infinitely resigned attempt to accept what actually is,as opposed to how you'd like it to be,and your own will-power to survive within this much more pertinent explanation of being on planet Earth right now which is much better understood through a calm and measured contemplation of the very real and increasingly incumbent Sci-Fi mix of both utopian and dystopian scenarios which according to our luck or un-luck in life, quite seriously take precedence over any escapism into the kinds of comforting, pacifying yet preternaturally doomed corporately and consciously manipulated attempt to overlay the simplicities and ordinary pleasures of a simple life, free of the kind of hypnagogic delusion and conscious warfare against the regular human psyche must, once realized, fight against as though it were a very real and urgently perceived threat to the basic attempt to live collectively unified one good whole mind, guided by what we cannot completely change, but enlivened by a shared belief and forgiveness and putting aside of petty retributions and laying to the side of the childish fantasies of religion,sky-gods,and all the elements of falsely manufactured synthetically and strategically instrumentalized yet seemingly innocent modes of dissemination against which this off topic rant is the only defence I have available to express the hatred I feel for the lies and deception for the grand conspiracy which I now openly declare to be set upon us.

Hello, faerylights....lol....what a mouthful. Now what did you say....? :D

Yes, they are imagined creatures, but maybe in some distant galaxy these things do exist....
    maybe not, too....
Science fiction has also put forth possilbe futures that have come true....I was told of stories where Sf writers were writing about going to the moon one day a long time ago...and were laughed at by many at the time....

we all have our imaginations, fantasies, etc.....or maybe some do not...i don't know about everyone here.....but it keeps all possibilities open, too.....and it is fun to be creative....at least for me, it is... :)

but you are one helluva writer.....I will say that to you, too.... :)
