Let me first preface this by saying that I know nothing about wine. Okay? I have very little experience in drinking and appreciating the flavor of any wine. That being said, I'm planning on hosting a dinner party (my first in fact) and I'm serving roast lamb stuffed with spinach and pine nuts. Yum, right? My problem is, most recommend a bold red to pair with roast lamb. But I can't decide what region, grape, vintage or winery to choose from. I've browsed through dozens of Cabernet Sauvignons, twice as many Syrahs, and Nero D'avola wines and I can't decide which to choose. I know that with wine, the little details make all the difference and I really don't want to muck this up. Also, and this is equally important, on the few occasions that I did try wine, I hated the bitterness that I initially encountered. And I figure, this can be from a good many factors (I.e: Cheap wine, naturally bitter grapes, or that wine in general is bitter) whatever the case may be. My question: Can you suggest a good red wine to pair with the lamb that isn't bitter? If not what would be a better choice in wine to suit my taste?

i think the "bitterness" you refer to is what's referred to as "dryness" or a dry wine. red wine is somewhat of an aqcuired taste i think. i don't know that much about wine but i know that i didn't care much for red wine at first but after you get used to it it gets better. i think you learn the correct way to drink it to where it tastes right if that makes sense.

Dollar General has pretty bitchin' red wine.

    $3.95 a bottle.

    It's all the same shit.

From your description, you just don't like wine, and probably won't like wine.

I don't do wine/food matching I just drink what I feel like at the time.

Maybe a full bodied Shiraz is too much for you and you could try a red blend. I have found blends with merlot in them to be more smooth in their finish.

Drink the expensive wine yourself first.

even better, make some shit up about why the cheap box wine pairs so well with the lamb and laugh to yourself when everyone is engaged in group-think so they all agree with you.

    YES! That sounds great!

I am a red wine drinker. I have recently had two bottles of Shiraz by myelf, with no parings with food! LOL

You might to get mid-priced bottles; get two different ones. I also like Malbec.

Good Luck and tell us what you decided!
