These will likely be the next two disasters in the coming days:

Flooding disaster in Buffalo; thousands of roofs collapsed under the weight of snow and rain, and hundreds dead in the wake of record snowfall. (It's supposed to go up to 60 degrees early next week in WNY -- a huge disaster of unprecedented proportions is just days ahead (really it's already happening), and could make Katrina look like a walk in the park).

Riots in Ferguson (and possibly across the country).

One crisis after another, but these will be "hot issues" for the next couple of weeks, methinks.

    >kxl is going to tear the country apart if/when its ever approved. one can only work and hope for government to have sense enough to not be so fucked up as to approve it.
    >the other one i'm watching is the net neutrality fight. the corporatocracy wants to turn the internet into a repeat of what fucked television from its earliest days onward. its a roll of the dice if enough people both understand and care. again one can only hope, pray, and work for good sense to prevail.
    >environment is always the main event, and people are too attached to their cars to make the connection, even though everyone realizes it affects them one way or another. clean energy is a good important step in the right direction, but transportation policy and population policy are both just as big factors affecting it.
    >also, corporate media love crysis. they're what sell advertising space.

We'll have to see how much flooding there is up there. Depends on how fast the snow melts. I heard there was about 5 feet of snow so they will have to contend with about 6 inches of water over the time it takes to thaw.

Avian influenza will be introduced into the US by "terrorists". It will wipe out the US turkey population. Instead of enraging Americans, the already processed, frozen turkeys will be hitting eBay for $723 and the few wild turkeys who managed to survive the initial infection will be hunted to extinction by greedy bible carrying gun nuts.

Ferguson will be nearly entirely calm. Nothing out of the ordinary. The threats of violent retribution have all been a game to try to shift the grand jury. However, in cities where similar protests have been arranged in support of Ferguson, there will be great frustration over the sudden cancellation that will lead to massive rioting and scores of deaths across the nation.

Isis will behead more American spies operating as aid workers and reporters until the US finally gets it through their thick skulls that they are not fooling anyone with this shit anymore. However, one of them will be from Texas and will instead be barbecued alive and then fed to dogs.

The first new generation of Boko Haram babies will be born soon to their kidnapped mothers. Because the world sat back and watched it happen. Because they were afraid of offending the other Muslims of the world. Who themselves did little beyond expressions of "outrage". Where is right and wrong in the world?

I'm glad that alot of schools will be on break when the decision is made re: the cop shooting the guy in Ferguson.

Last night I read that the black colleges in Atlanta are planning to "rally" in front of the federal building the the decision is in favor of the cop.

I forgot to mention that the police in the metro area have been meeting talking about how to handle things if people get outraged by the decision. I'm 35 miles from those colleges yet the local police have been in strategy meetings.
