    We recently acquired a temporary house guest, Buddy;

    [IMG]
    it's looking more like he will end up part of the family, but that is ok, he is a pretty awesome pooch, mellow and fairly well trained, but he is powerful strong.

    This ball was brand new less than 20 hours ago!;

    I got the toughest ball the store had. I could barely squish it.

    the proud owner;

    (he may look like he's just kicking back, but that is just his way of daring me to try and take the ball)

    I've seen KONG products (mega-tough toys for dogs) online but couldn't find any in the store.
    Anyone out there have any experience with KONG toys and how well they hold up?

    I'm about ready to try using a croquet ball for playing fetch... :dizzy2:

    back when was in high school, my dog had one of these kong toys:
    [IMG]

    i'm pretty sure it lasted a long time. but he was also a 25 pound terrier, so this might be different. i mean, he was a badass dog for his size, but i still think your dog would have swallowed him in one bite.

    Buddy is cute and looks happy.

    I have a kong toy for our dog but she is no specimen for a durability test. She's 2.5kg (approx. 5 pounds)

    my furst thought was indeed that it depends on what you intended to do with them.

    We had a family Border Collie cross who would play Loop all day long:

    I think you might have a job to win a tug of war with your pooch though NG hehe :)

    yeah that's one of the ones i was interested in, but the big one made out black rubber. Only problem is any type of hole is just a vantage point for Buddy to get more leverage to rip it to shreds. :(

    so far we have gone through three "tug o' war" ropes, but picked one up yesterday that is pretty big and durable. It's a knotted rope with two ends on it for him to grab. He quickly learned that if he gets both ropes in his mouth, I can NOT pull it out of his mouth. We drug each other back and forth across the yard for about 40 minutes last night.
    At least I'm getting a work-out! LOL

    Buddy loves tennis balls, soccer balls, basketballs, etc., but they generally only last a few minutes, especially soccer balls, dog absolutely has a hard-on for soccer balls.
    I will admit it is a little terrifying and very intimidating to watch him tear a soccer ball to shreds.

    get a tire, hang it from tree, works really well.

    i can't buy any kind of toy for my dog, or those kong toys either. Some dogs can just rip them apart..

    Only a few bones work also and they are usually antlers of some kind..

    also.. if you do decided to do the tire thing. careful after a while a metal strip might show, then you gotta cut the tire and take it out.

    I would look at Petco's website and order some off there. Our three dogs all really enjoy playing with Kong toys and they've held up beautifully.
    Ya know, another thing that might work is one of these. It's a ball made for horses- extremely thick! I bet Buddy couldn't manage to destroy that too quickly :) My horse can't, so he should be fine. He's BEAUTIFUL, by the way. If you ever wanna find a new home for him...give me a call ;)

    Here's that horse toy I was talking about :) It's called a Jolly Ball. You could probably find it at a farm store like Theisens :)

    I'd just buy a lot of cheap tennis balls if I were you. Dogs seem to love them indeed. And when they tear pretty much every kind of toy up you better get them something cheap. We only get our dog (german shepherd) branches, pieces of rubber that resembles a branch (generally last a month or so, depends how fast he breaks it up in several pieces) and tennis balls. No use in getting him something supposedly high quality if it doesn't last much longer than the cheap or free stuff.

    the two dogs where i live, are sweet and wouldn't hurt a flea. but man do they love to tear things up. the back yard is basically too much theirs to do anything else with it. the covered back porch was once upon a time carpeted. not now. yes i agree, let them have free or cheap stuff to tear up. they enjoy doing so just as much as if it were anything expensive.
