....when everyone waved at each other on rural roads, whether they knew each other or not (probably a regional thing).
Getting excited about going over the friends house who was the only one in the neighbourhood whose parents could afford an Atari and playing Warlords for 4 hours, which was basically one one step up from pong. I laugh at that nowadays Circa 1980/81
not having to have a car, because there were four trains and 8 buses in each direction that stopped in our little town every day. (and not having to get a building permit if you were outside of the 'city' (of 915 cats, humans and porcupines) limits)
Not having a telephone, TV, or central heat. Taking a spring tonic of castor oil and waiting for the doctor's house call.
...when nobody had a cellphone and we had to actually call someone's home number to reach them. ...when we were allowed to smoke in bars, pubs and clubs. ...when neon colors were in style (before they made a comeback a few years ago). ...when convenience stores used to sell penny candies. ...when video games were in 2D.
I remember prop planes being the mode of transportation commercially. Nickel candy, 12 cent movies, the BIG war,no big box stores, (exception=Sears, Montgomery-Ward) Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, many, many others in the Star catagory. Oak cabinet on the wall with a crank on the side to rouse an operator to plug in your request on a big switchboard.------on and on.
Atari 2600 video game system. These damn things had wood built into them. I never owned one, but was so jealous as a kid when my cusion did. No idea what happened to it. Not seen one since.
i remember when kids used to spend the summer running around playing tag building tree forts and playing in the creek...i remember lawn darts and metal cap guns... i remember when life was fun
I remember when BIG Bands used to tour and people thought 'rasslin was real! ( In my gallery on my bicycle--in the background is a funky bandstand where bands used to play!) I remember when some guys in the NBA still shot 2 handed set shots. And one guy shot free throws UNDERHANDED!
I remember when the internet used to be some kind of online Far West, no laws, no rules, no regulations, it was true freedom and also a total free for all.
i remember when istanbul was called constantinople well not really...but i always liked that catchy song
Damnit,I can remember when bicycles had rod brakes and little bells on the handlebars,tv being monochrome,Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova going into space, cars having starting handles....and not making 'OOF' sounds as I get up off a sofa.
We got our first TV in 1954 when I was three. All it played was baseball. (must have been the world series or something) I have hated baseball ever since. I remember when phones had "party lines" and it was a big deal when our family got our own private line.
I remember having to fiddle around with the tuning on our tv to get the screen from flipping vertically and horizontally. My best friend was on a party line. I remember he used to say mean things about his neighbor to see if she was listening in (she couldn't help but speak up and defend herself). I remember being able to park my bicycle anywhere, for any amount of time, without worrying that it would be gone when I returned.
