I Think This Is Kind Of Dumb Of Google

I mean, whats likely to happen, lead to more people using other search engines when they want to find that stuff, then after a while wondering why they need a google account anway

 

If only they could do the same for those hack sites that offer bogus versions of Chrome. I bought my daughter a new laptop and first thing she did was type "Chrome" in her Explorer browser, downloaded the first link to come up, and introduced all kinds of trojans.

 

I'm sure they have financial incentive from industries like the RIAA and MPAA to rank certain sites and content above others.

Google itself is a very large corporation and not exactly the public utility that some think it is. anyone who wishes to find these things can still readily do so, it's not like Google can just delete something from the Internet, if one knows where to look they can still get there.

back in the 90s and early 2000s the Internet and computer culture was much more "hackerish" than it was today. we never needed Google to find our nefarious content for the most part. the Internet culture today is much more tame it seems and the Internet itself seems more homogenous in a way but that is an illusion.

in a way it seemed like such a different medium because in some ways it seems people have become even less aware of all the things that the Internet can be used to do, and only know how to type the word Google into the address bar. if that site was unavailable I can image that the Internet might seem broken to some people. we used to use IRC to chat, icq and the like to have personal IM conversations (with both people IRL and online acquaintances. a lot of information could eventually be obtained from people you met in chat channels.

 

Chrome is aweful..........

Spies on ppl,etc....... I really feel bad for anyone who likes it!!

 

Google's business model is built upon spyware. Or AdSense if your prefer.

It also caches things better, and renders JavaScript and the DOM better than other browsers, meaning pages load faster and look nicer. as a web developer it's an essential tool as well.

I don't disagree with you. But that fight may already be lost upon the general public.

 

Yes well the general public has been so dumbed down/brainwashed they dont care about thier (or anyone elses) privacy...... Its how the elite wants it!! (Easy control for them)

 

it's the current "culture", is there any difference between "brainwashing" and cultural influence?

on the Google site today it says "Even Monsters are made with Code. Code your own for Halloween". at least they are encouraging people to code ... that can't be a totally bad thing can it?

 

i think i read somewhere chrome is the most used browser worldwide, i personally feel its a browser for the casual user, i normally have around 10 or more tabs open at once and because of the way chrome works it eats up large amounts RAM.
with the chromium engine being used for more and more browsers if we are not careful websites are going to be optimised for a better chrome experience and other browser users are going to feel like second class citizens

it may not be as good, but, i'll stick with Firefox for now
