This video seems pretty sketch. I mean it is titled how scientists can prove the existence of a soul, but then the narrator says he's an artist, followed by 'scientific' information that sounds like it is being read by a digital voice.

Yes, it was hard to understand...but quantum science is looking for the thing called "soul".....and it is just another theory...and there are plenty of those.....I know "the soul" has to do with the feeling self....and not the thinking self....that is my theory, anyway.

anyone can be a robot and recite the alphabet, so to speak, but do they feel it?

this is pseudoscience at the very best, I don't think this even truly qualifies of being an actual theory.

I didn't follow much of the video, although it did help me better understand the concept of how infinity used by physicists.

Yeah, I did not understand what the hell he was saying either. He could have been saying the moon was made out of bleu cheese, for all I knew....lol...but my point is that the soul is being searched for. I do not think they are going to find it....I think it has to do with, once again, those particles that do not follow any scientific structures......and do whatever the hell they want to.....a safeguard....I think.

I also feel, if someone has a theory or whatever they have, why pontificate to show off by speaking above everyone's head?
Speak simply and slowly for all to understand, as my friend, Dr. Weil does.....
This way people may really listen to what you have to say.
Isaac Asimov, one of the greatest minds in our lifetime, spoke in terms for everyone to understand...and even put out two books...Asimov's Guide to the Bible, and Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare......
By pontificating, I think some folks think that must be right, as I don't understand what they are saying, so they must be smarter than me and know....but I always thought....what crock of shit are you trying to peddle to me....?

There was a part of the video where they said "In layman's terms" which was an attempt to speak simply. :beatnik:

It seems they are using the term 'consciousness' and 'soul' interchangeably here. The study sounds focused on consciousness but the narrator carries on with the term soul, perhaps as the persistent essence that exits the microtubules?

I found the what I'll call (perhaps poorly) quantum solipsism idea described in the latter part of the video interesting, where every entity creates it's own spacetime.

I've only read I Robot from Asimov, even from that I was pretty captivated by his writing style.

I hope that the essence of people continue in some form......but I have my doubts, which is very sad. I want proof to be found that it does, desparately........
It is so hard to think that when someone dies...that is it forever. :(

As far as I understand, our perceptions, thoughts, and sensations require the activity at the cellular and macroscopic levels of the brain. I'd speculate that consciousness is likely an emergent phenomena resultant from this. However if I were to entertain the notion of quantum perceptions, thoughts, etc. I don't see any reason why the quantum level of consciousness would only express itself in extreme situations like an OOBE. I'd speculate that it would express itself more frequently, perhaps subconsciously in normal states of awareness as well. If that were the case, then you have a very abstract definition of 'essence' as the quantum releases would likely take place all throughout life.

My limited understanding of subatomic particles is that they contain aspects such as rotation, velocity, and spin but I'm not sure where the information to influence our mind would be contained, like the directions from a neurotransmitter to a synapse at the quantum level, but as I said my understanding of subatomic particles is limited.

^ I know that reading people's minds is a pseudo science still in its infancy, and vice versa.....but, I myself have had countless number of experiences like this in my lifetime for it to be just an infinite number of coincidences .....so maybe that is the emergy you speak of that is present all during life....that has no weight or mass?.....so therefore breaking all boundaries we know of.....possibly.....

I couldn't stand to listen to the video. In a brain; there are 100 billion neurons, there are around 500 trillion atoms in every neuron, there are dozens of quantum states in every atom...

A quantum state doesn't contain in itself any information of a whole atom let alone an entire mind. Like a spec of mud doesn't contain information for bricks and a brick does not contain the blueprints for a mansion. Consciousness is a mosaic of trillions of elements working in concert. We are built from patterns that emerge from beneficial interactions from countless trillions of elements over billions of years.

It is clear to myself that we can imagine patterns that are simply naturally impossible. However, in an infinite space-time series multiverse all patterns that are possible also repeat, infinitely. A billion trillion light years in any direction of space-time, you can be sure humans exist, it is a mathematical certainty of infinity. You specifically may not exist but someone just like you. All the defining characteristics that make who you are, every significant thought and feeling has been experienced countless billions of times over, to infinity, for eternity... This is something even an atheist can be certain of.

I was thinking.....some day, they will be able to implant microchips into the human brain for instant knowledge that all man knows now, or parts of that anyway...knowing calculus and all of the higher maths, instananeously for instance....
Could the reverse be true, as well...? a microchip, for lack of a better word, to absorb everything that is any one 's brain, and would that microchip be you then with all of the memories that you have?....somehow experiencing anything new with all of the other senses will be lost, though.

That is fascinating, although.....I don't think every exact experience anyone has ever had at exact time sequences will occur.....unless time and you are cyclical for an eternity, where nothing changes, like a merry go round, but would would be the point of that?

So in other words, the moneky bars I climbed as a child....may not be there, anymore. Maybe something was built in its place, and they were torn down, so therefore in a continuum of time in a straight line...nothing is going to be exactly repeated.

If one is the pen writing their own life, what is the paper to hold it forever?

The emergence that I speak of is consciousness, being a phenomena that is distinct from it's components like folds in the brain, connections of the hemispheres via the corpus collosum, neuronal chemicals messaging specific activation sites, specialized lobes, etc.

There is still a lot about the brain we do not understand. It is not a static organ and we know there are certain conditions where very bizarre phenomena can occur. (I.E. Synesthesia, Prosopagnosia) I could speculate with novel information in the environment, perhaps the brain may respond in unique ways as well.

Concerning telepathy, if it's necessary for thoughts to result from the brain sending signals, how can you read someone else's thoughts without sending signals?

hmmmm...ever compare the human brain with all of the connections and things as a mini universe?
Likening it to.....we are mini me's of all there is....as is everything else.....

the universe has a fractal nature at least up to very large scales.
