Hey guys I've been wanting to learn russian for a while now,and I want to ask about my planned method.

My ideal method is to study my textbook for an hour a day , try to talk to people in russian at least an hour a day, and listen to russian music, watch russian movies, read russian books etc. In my free time.

Do you think my method will work well?

    Also , my Skype I'd is ottoeberhart16

It could work. I've learned languages like this.

I've studied Russian in the past. I've given up, because it was really a language I'd have a lot of opportunities to use. Also, because the many declinations made it very difficult to learn. I was very young at the time, just a child. I've used the Nina Patapava method and stopped when the declinations started. To this day, I can still understand a few things (very little, only isolated words, in no way possible to have a conversation). It has been useful to me to be able to read the Cyrillic alphabet, while in Russia and some other countries.

    Good work!

^^^ I had seen it, but it was too late to edit.

I meant to say "I wouldn't" where I've written, by accident "I'd". Most of the times I come here is on my phone. Sometimes the tiny keyboard plays (unwanted) games with me.

To learn English I went to Saturday schooling. 4hrs. For a couple of months. :)

It did help though. Being in a country where everyone spoke the English. =p

Eh, my history with translators is pretty bad.

I write what I want translated.

    I translate it.

Then I translate that translation back and it's never close.

I've had people PM me in Deutsch and sometimes I'm just like... what the fuck? Freetranslation.com?? Lol.

You gotta do it with real people. Translations don't teach you accents or how to really pronounce the words and especially when it's a robot speaking to you.

All these computer programs too, can cost a lot. I admit I tried a Polish version once, and just, meh. I'd rather go across border to Poland and talk to the old people. :)

and you can't do it from music lyrics either, since a very high percentage of written lyrical work is poetic, it just doesn't work that way.

many Rammstein fans outside of Germany have learned this and Rammstein themselves have a running joke with it too. :D

I use duolingo. I know 600+ words doing it everyday for 10 minutes, for a third of a year. Doing okay.

Now you know why English speakers are so lazy when it comes to learning another language. The problem is that being surrounded by countries speaking different languages, it is difficult to justify the time learning just one of them.
I always remember my college days, when having to choose between carpentry and French, the carpentry instructor said "carpentry is useful in any country in the world and if they don't understand English, just shout a bit louder," :yum::yum::yum:.

But on a more serious note, I deal with companies regularly in Germany. France Italy and one in Poland. Jane is also Irish and I visit Wales.
6 languages. which one would I chose ????????

Well I already speak German but I'd do Polish from that line up. :p probably won't ever see me in those other countries, especially France. :p

Ha-ha. Your English is extremely good, but do you speak Austrian, which is right on your doorstep.?
I imagine that Austrian people have difficulty in deciding between German and English when they learn a second Language.
Here in London, their is a move towards standardizing Chinese as a second language taught in schools, but as yet, little has happened.

Austrian is just German language. There's really not much difference at all. When you go road trip and come back through Austria you know you aren't home but everything is so familiar. Ahh yes, back to the euro again.
