Such a wretched curse takes its toll on me
As I walk in cracked shoes with swollen feet
Bending aching knees under bulging weight
Peeling oily hair off a tear-stained face
Try to reach around toward a constant itch
Find a long-tined fork, scratch with bloody tips

Now, my un-nursed breasts roll like lifeless heads
As all thoughts of love wash away in red
From reopened scars left by careless hands
Leaving me diseased by my own demands

Tried to drown them out with sweet songs of light
But each ghastly voice leaves a bitter blight
And the two who walked with me arm-in-arm
Think me like a child full of pleasing charm
While at night they lay warm in bed beside
Every promised prize turned to endless bride

So, I view the world with a longing stare
Beat my trusted heart for the lusty fare
All their tortured minds filled with thoughts of me
Twist like violent winds dropping fruit from trees
Picking writhing worms out of shining skin
Bruising speckled flesh, now I rot within

Once worth many words, now the frame is cracked
There’s no second sun when the rain is black
Now, the deadly filth floods my treasured dreams
Severs family ties, tears apart the seams
Catch a falling star, find a glittering gem
Lift my heavy wings off to fly with them
Cast myself away like a freed balloon
Just one pull and this will be over soon

Now, the air is warm and my body’s numb
Forsake what once was as the darkness comes
Hellfire in my head as the air grows thin
Fingers claw for life, strip away the sin
Loose the knotted cloth, fail my final test
Heavy eyelids drop as I lay to rest

Wakened by the noise of the mundane grind
Strain to hear the voice far beneath my mind
Try to live again as I did before
Forced to give it all but can’t take much more
Ask the blustery sky for a ray of sun
Shiver in the cold, seems the curse has won
Give away my thoughts, can’t afford to feel
If my bleeding heart drained the dreams concealed
By the choking layers of fear, pain and strife
Peel them back to find that my curse is life

    Really, no responses ~~*

'Tried to drown them out with sweet songs of light
But each gastly voice leaves a bitter blight'

Powerful, evocative of a very strong soul, betwix now and then,
    expecting and receiving dual bliss.
