I got to see Dave Matthews back in 94. One of the things that makes them so cool to me is the fact that they have a Jazz/Fusion rhythm section.

Yeah I'm an effects junkie. The main 2 pedals that I don't shut off are Chorus and EQ. I also use a limiter, envelope filter and Delay.

Envelope Filter is great for those Bootsy Collins type lines. I also used it on that Herbie Hancock track to get that Clavinet type sound. I've also used it in conjunction with an Octave pedal and 2 handed tapping to simulate Stevie Wonder type synth bass lines.

Yeah I've tried programmable multi effects but I like to be able to turn my pedals on and off myself. Plus most of them only have abut 2 or 3 sounds that I liked and they generally are more than I'd like to spend for those 2 or 3 sounds.

This guy is one of my favorites too:

Yeah back in the day he played on all of the old Sugar Hill Records hip hop tracks. He's also played with Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Seal, Madonna, and Living Colour among others.

Once I get off work I'm going to have a couple of beers, work on some arpeggios and pentatonic exercises that I made up and some rhythm exercises that I got from Kai Eckhardt. He used to play bass for John McLaughlin and Garaj Mahal.
