    Right!

Swarm of bees just took off... I had just went out to check them out, hadn't disturbed them or anything. About half a minute later they were all in my backyard buzzing around. They make one hell of a noise when they do that.

The kids in our town went back to school last Wednesday. A town south of us started last week and had to borrow buses from other localities because 15 of their buses did not pass inspection. Wouldn't you think they would check well before school starts to make sure the buses were in good condition? What do I know?

Hopefully just passing through... They are honey bees, the good guys. It's a little late in the year for them to start a new colony though. They may know something we don't though.

Like the new chat title!! :)

When I planted my flower garden here I planned it out so that it was bird, butterfly and bee friendly. I am in the city on an open space so the chances of having a hive here are really small. I know they are saying the bees are in trouble and we need them......but like the dump no one wants it in their back yard. :)

Maybe there will be a solar vortex instead of a polar vortex ...

The bees are looking for a place... Odd thing, when the swarm on the tree branch broke up this morning it moved to the ground just inside my fence. They are now searching my house for a nest site. I don't suspect they will find one, eaves were sprayed and there should be no useful sites for a hive. With the swarm on the ground the queen can't fly very well so they aren't going to move on very quickly.

Monday I was wondering why there weren't many birds at the feeder... Guess I know why now.

i like bees, i will bee adding hives when i can afford them. son and i were watching some early morning bees at the bus stop.
they swarm when they have enough food, and a new queen is born. part of the hive leaves with the new queen, some stay with the old one. so usually naturally swarming bees are a good thing.
beekeepers keep their bees around by providing empty hives, and harvesting part of the honey to make space. if you dont want the hive to split you have to pinch out the new queen larvae, they are bigger than the others.

supers (the boxes) have pre-formed comb bases. better for harvesting honey, not as good if you want wax. top-bar hives allow the bees to build their combs naturally, and also allows you to harvest whole comb and get the use out of the wax.

i dont know everything about bees, but i know enough to get started, lol

Made a double batch of zuccini soup, tastes pretty good actually. I need to buy some more mason jars before I make anything else.
