What generational differences are there between you and your parents? Although my parents were both tertiary educated and I am not, they were far more dogmatic than I am. My Mum always claimed to be open minded, my Dad was something of a bigot.

If treating hippies is like herding cats: Obummer seems good at it.

My mom is pretty cool. I have more in common with her as someone who came of age in the 60s than I do with my own siblings, who are between 9-13 years older than me. They're part of generation X and have a completely different mindset than me. I'm considered part of the millennial generation, I think.

My mom and I see eye to eye on most things.

My parents are quite close minded, they are very religious and against very nearly everything I support.

I am apatheist, lesbian (this was our biggest problem, I can't go to their home anymore), I am progressive and they are conservative (both of my half brothers are tea party).

My entire family is into consumerism and I am working on establishing a commune.

It very much seems as if I were some alien dropped in on them.

my parents were not hippies, so there are quite a lot of differences. most of my family is very irish, very poor, and very religious, so they're mostly hard-working people who are constantly on the money grind and they know their way around a bottle of whiskey. that being said, i'm kind of a huge outlier. most people consider me the "wildcard" type because i'm very weird and unique and i'm also very energetic and outspoken. i use cannabis very liberally, consider myself a full-time student studying ethnobotany, am a practicing pacifist, socialist, and buddhist. most of my family do not relate to me at all. :p
