Chess is very fun but now that I've grown I find less and less people to physically play. I bought a medieval style pewter chess set a few years ago and I've never played on it. =[

I only like the normal chess sets. When you dont immediately know what a piece is it can cause stupid mistakes in games. Pain in the ass

You can tell with mine though. Pawn soldiers are small. Rooks are easily distinguished. Knights are too, King and queen pretty obvious, bishops have a religious style hat.

I played on a Chinese set once and man the pieces were terrible to play with.

Yeah but those Chinese style sets look awesome.

Formally, that's known as a Staunton style of chessmen.

can't say as i've ever gotten very good at it. haven't played in ages. looking about five moves deep and being creative is as much as i can do. anyone who's remotely good at it, can easily beat me any time. yet there were also those, i've played against, i could always beat too. i don't own a set, because, well, everything social sort of takes time away from things that really interest me more. but yes, i once upon a time made it slightly beyond the 'wood pusher' (newb) stage. just never had the obsession to make it very much beyond.

5 moves ahead? I can't even get that far ahead of myself. And I never want to really because one piece moved that you didn't factor nullifies the whole thing. In my experience anyway. :D

I keep two to three moves ahead, I try and castle my rook/king, have both rooks middle square last row and every other piece out by the tenth move. I forgot what this opening is called, but if you can manage it you're in a good looking position IMO.

The worst are players that attack straight away, I don't like playing games like that. I like a challenge, not piece for piece.

I play chess like I play snooker.
And I play snooker like I play chess. ;)

i like to change up the strategy. keeps things interesting.

i haven't actually played chess in years though. i don't like playing it online and nobody in real life is willing to play. it might be easier to get laid than to find a chess partner these days.
