When you live free, you learn that material things don't matter. You learn to be happy with a simple drink of water. In Buddhism there is a concept known as Shunyata. It is the shedding of all misconceptions from society, like religion, government, capitalism, and so on. Buddhism teaches that one has to shed these man-made concepts from the mind, in order to see life clearly. Being homeless is the first step in Shunyata. I don't favor being homeless in a city. I like camping in the wilderness and being free from the material possession centers, like big cities.
