About the certain aspects of your life style that are frowned upon by society (drug use/sex) but accepted by the Hippy community? How did they find out and what was their reaction?

No ... they don't. And they ain't gonna find out, either? Why worry them with something that doesn't concern them in the last few years of their lives? Let them live and die in blissful ignorance, I say.

(That way they're less likely to change their wills, too ... )

Nope, I have plenty of secrets. Also, my dad really doesn't want to discuss many things because he really can't bear to hear details. He doesn't even want to know/associate with my fiancé because he gets with daddy's little girl. So I would not tell him about my more interesting tales. We keep it simple, and yet we seem to know each other so well! He would not suspect yet wouldn't put past much though if that makes sense he's not easily shocked.

My mother on the other hand is too much of an airhead to hold a long conversation. Soooo... I don't go into it with her either lol.

My mom tried to catch me up on smoking pot for the longest time, but never could. Then I moved out and it was no big deal. We joke about it now. My step dad went and finally got his GED with his best friend so one night my now ex boyfriend and I had them over and smoked a nice fat blunt right in front of them. My dad knows and just started talking about pot around me and saying stuff he used to do. They don't know about the mushrooms, acid, or anything else. Eventually they will though, I'm sure. My dad's side is all at least somewhat hippie-ish.

My family doesn't know I'm bisexual, or that I've ever used drugs. But all that isn't really anyone's business anyway.

I use to think they did not know a lot of things that I did or was up to but they actually did.

There is a saying that goes along the lines of
I wish I was as smart as my child thinks I am
and half as dumb as my teen thinks I am.

No matter what they thought or actually did figure out they have always stood by me and treated me with respect and love. So I think they were pretty smart. :)

Maybe they simply got more intelligent as I actually got more mature. ;)

Our parents know nothing, about some of the things we have done. And would probably be floored if they did. Wife is close to her sister, and she doesn't even know about her sexual adventures. She gets a kick out of her nights out with the girls, and they talk about some of the things, they have done. Knowing she's done much wilder things, than they could imagine.

I'm 34 and I've been married 14 years. I think the cat is out of the bag that I'm having sex. He jokingly asks my husband "are you fucking my daughter" just for the shock value of asking. There's nothing that I keep from him. Friday his back was hurting him. I asked what happened and he told me he threw it out having sex. We talk about everything.

Probably not. But then again. We have done a few things that at one time in my life I never dreamed of.

What drugs I've done and who I have sex with don't concern/involve my parents, so no, I don't discuss that with them.

My mom watches the Jerry Springer show Baggage from time to time. Half the shit on there and some of the other shows on tv she watches are far more sexually deviant than stuff I've done but I don't discuss sex with my parents. They do know I've used drugs and we've had several talks even up to suggesting I go to rehab at one point.

My parents didn't know anything until I was in my third year of college. Then they got pissed off, and never did get over it.

They always had double standards -- lower expectations for my sister, for reasons that I've never understood.

Story of my life. My little sister's adolescence was a cake walk compared to mine.

My mom died when I was 15 so my dad was dealing with his own shit when I was a teenager. I had total freedom and an excuse to fuck up big time. I actually lived in a house by myself for a year when I was 16. He paid the bills and bought groceries but I lived alone. I refused to live with his new wife so that was the compromise. I did some stupid shit most of which he didn't find out about until I was an adult. We actually talked about my only run in with the police the other day. He knows all the stupid shit I did now, which in the grand scheme of things, weren't that bad. I was a pretty good kid that just did normal teenage stuff. My sister was a saint and never did anything wrong so I look like the bad kid...but I'm still his favorite. :) Sometimes he still looks shocked a when I tell him about things that I did almost 20 years ago. I just say "too soon?" He was a terrible maker as a kid so nothing I have to say should shock him.

I would imagine that both of my rents had some idea before I moved out on my own. Momma's dead so I doubt she knows much of anything anymore. Dad never really cared that much. Just as long as I kept it to myself.

The sister act seems to take place in lots of family's. This is funny because my wife told me some of these things about her older sister. I found out later that her older sister had told her mother, That I was kind of a bad boy, and that I would only use her. And didn't want me dating her. Nice she wanted to protect her, but we are still together. So who's to say!

My mom doesn't know and will never know that I used to sneak girls into my room to have sex with. I've never done any drugs but sex and definitely a big part of my teenage years

My parents are middle-class professional and are the typical middle England types. From about the age of 15/16 I started being a bit expressive with my appearance and from that point things just took a turn.

As their disapproval increased so did my hatred of mainstream life and everything they stood for. I became far more left-wing and liberal not so much out of choice but more in protest.

My parents have been disappointed in pretty much every aspect of my life despite being personally successful as a professional artist & craftsman, financially independent, two well adjusted children and a beautiful wife.

We talk and I visit them (they would never visit me out of free will), I'm polite. Yet as much as I try my choices are viewed as madness. My vegetarian children are apparently not ever going to be well nourished, my faith is a hocus-pocus mumbo-jumbo, I need to get a 'real' job, cut my hair and 'grow-up'.....the list goes on.

In summary I'm not 'normal'. However they're my parents and despite trying to hate them I can't. They will not ever see me as the ideal son, but I love them.

For some people the path you take will not be easy, but my life is happy. I enjoy my life, friendships and relationships. I could never live in the mainstream and be content, I'd surely be depressed and that could certainly take me on trips I don't wish to travel.

    Madesh :)
