Why not just tune out? I don't watch tv (haven't, for years), don't rent movies, don't buy telecommunication packages (tv, phone, internet)... It's a personal choice.
I pretty much only watch AMC, and documentaries and comedy specials on Netflix. I don't trust the media at all and I don't watch the news. I read on the internet at the most unbiased sources I can find.
