    Installing this now.
I wasn't that excited about GTA V until I saw a video this weekend.. It looks fucking awesome. Since then I've been more excited about it than I have any other game probably since Skyrim.. also haven't read such good reviews probably ever.

I just unlocked Trevor last night
It was cool up until then, just GTA with better mechanics and graphics
But once I unlocked Trevor, oh man, shit just got so interesting and funny.
This is definitely the best GTA game ever, and probably one of the best games of all time. Weekend can't come fast enough!

Oh, and it's only out for 360 and PS3 so far.. Supposed to come out for PC in 6 months or so.

I'm not a videogame person, but this game has really got my attention.

Is it out for PC yet?

I'm worried I can't play it on my computer regardless.

I have a amd athlon II p329 dual core 2.1 ghz
    3 gb ram
    xbox 360 controller
    ati mobility radeon hd 4250
    win 7

these things make up my laptop

Got it yesterday and was up playing it until 4:00 a.m. As with anything that's been so built up and anticipated, the joy of the new is not altogether without reservations. Sure, it looks great, and it seems draw distances have improved, w/less pop-up than in previous installments. But I'm not sure if it really looks that 'Next-next-gen' as everyone was gushing over, based on pre-release trailers. The artwork is certainly impeccable, reproducing a virtual LA with the kind of attention to detail we've come to expect from Rockstar. Maybe it's just that LA isn't a 'conventionally beautiful' city in the way New York is (or maybe I was just too stoned), but I wasn't particularly overwhelmed by the environment. It's pretty, but not OMG-how-is-this-freakin-possible-pretty. Gone are the darker, washed-out hues of GTA IV (or, for that matter, RDR), supplanted by bright, sunlit So Cal environments-without-history. It gets modern day LA right, for sure, but in doing so renders the game environment more 'fake', 'virtual', 'empty' - more 'video gamish' than its predecessor. But then I've lived in GTA IV's Liberty City, running around daily, sometimes just strolling around. I realize I've only just scratched the surface of what V has to offer, but overall my impression is GTA V, despite its graphical excellence, looks to hark back to the more 'gamish' aesthetics of the series. More hyperreal video game than realistic simulation. This is also borne out in the driving, which is heavily informed by Rockstar's Midnight Club series, and has definitely taken a turn for ultra-fast 'arcade' style gameplay. People have been complaining about the vehicle controls in IV, calling them sluggish and whatnot, but I really liked the feeling of weight that game had. I winced the first time I ran into a pedestrian in GTA IV (and years later, in fact, still wince), but by comparison the vehicles I've driven in V feel lighter, and impacts with pedestrians more cartoon-like. Again, more 'virtual'. The speed makes it much harder to take aim at cars behind while driving (one of my favorite pastimes in IV) without crashing into something. Cop cars have also become a notch more aggro, habitually ramming you from behind, and frequently sending you into a spinning halt that, to be honest, feels a bit cheap.

One thing that feels more realistic and anything but 'virtual' is the melee combat. Basically, the 'boxing' system of IV seems to have been dropped, and now you can knock NPC's out cold with one solid smack to the grill. That's how it really is, kids, all this repeated blows to the head business Hollywood revels in is just as fake as American Wrestling, it's all about landing that deciding blow to the dome. It's exhilarating to run around smacking random people in the back of the head, but I sure hope there's more to the fighting system than just the running right hook. For better or worse, GTA IV's melee combat system made fights more challenging than in previous installments, where repeatedly pressing 'attack' would suffice to combo your opponent into submission. It seems in V there is still the ability to dodge (and I suppose counter-attack), thus adding a little depth to the scrapping system. Only thing is that if it only takes one solid swing to the grill to knock someone out commission, you might find yourself not bothering to learn it.

These are my initial feelings, and I am a longtime fan of the franchise. Again, maybe it's just the hype and anticipation, but my first experience playing the game hasn't quite been the overwhelming awesome it seems to be for nearly everyone else. I'm not saying it's not good - I'm not even saying it's not GREAT. It IS great. And surely going to get a whole lot greater as I get deeper into it. But in some respects, for all its hardware limits pushing technical excellence, GTA V feels like a return to the weightless virtual nihilism of Vice City, rather than continuing in the 'social realist' vein of IV. But again, maybe that's just LA - I mean LS - for you, and I have to get hip to this new reality.

will be in 2014 i think

you will need more ram, and I think you might have too low processor, nt mentioning that you graphics card should have at least 1gb, and yours have 512mb

Did you get to play as Trevor yet? That's what pushed it over from "great" to "awesome" for me. And I think the longer you play, the more you can appreciate all the extra shit, like RDR-style random missions, etc.

And I doubt you'll be able to run it on that laptop, Death. The graphics are pretty damn sweet, and my 360 occasionally lags a bit.

    @ Jimmy P

negative, but so I hear. Thing is that whenever a new GTA comes out, the first few sessions for me are mostly just getting lost and causing mayhem. With San Andreas I don't think I did the first mission until the third day of playing, so completely engrossed was I at running around Los Santos doing the usual GTA shit.

Maybe the other night I was just TOO hyped at finally being able to play it (even after late night toking) to instantly get into it. I've played it again last night - again stoned, again until like 4:00 a.m. - and I just had the time of my life. I can't even remember all the stuff I got up to, but at one point I was out in the countryside on a quad bike I'd taken off some white trash inbreds (who for no apparent reason started yelling at me and even set their dog on me) and was racing up mountains, flying off the other end into the valley below, thinking yes, this is happiness.

On day two I'm coming to grips with the new controls - or rather, the lack of a 'classic' option with gas on A and braking on X, rather than having to use the triggers - and am happy to say that though the driving is arcade-fast, it's not as unforgivingly difficult as, say Midnight Club LA, where a momentary lapse in attention means you're dead. It's fun is what it is.

At one moment I was stranded sans vehicle out in the middle of fucking nowhere, when a freight train passed, and I thought maybe you can hop on, which you could and I did, just taking in the scenery. Small things like this - being able to climb a moving train - to me stand for the massively upgraded freedom in GTA V to just do random shit. You could say IV was a realistic depiction, gameplaywise, of the life of an immigrant coming to grips with the reality that if you don't have $$$ you're quite limited in the extent to which you can explore a city like New York. The beautiful, but for the most part inaccessible buildings in Liberty City were thematically appropriate there, reproducing the 'invisible walls' that make up daily life for the disenfranchised.

By comparison, GTA V is an all-in, thrill-packed holiday. In a good way. One thing I really like is that the characters have actual families and live in actual homes, no more one room bachelor pad safe houses. The tense interactions with the family members are a hoot, and I had to laugh out loud at the self-loathing ramblings of Franklin after smoking too much weed in front of the telly. Speaking of the green, they've really gone all-out with the Mary Jane in this one. Topical, considering the green revolution underway in the US, where some states' cannabis legislation is actually more progressive than that in the Netherlands. But I'm also guessing R*'s marketing division figured out the majority of GTA fans are avid cannabists.

I haven't played it yet because my fiance's been hogging it since he got it the day it came out. But I've been watching him and the game looks fucking amazing. Very realistic and very entertaining.

I am a huge GTA fan and I have been waiting for this game since last year.

I bought GTA V the day it was released and am about 45% with the game right now... I would be further into it, but damn the real world for interfering with my video gaming!!!!!

So far, I really like it. IT'S DEFINITELY A HUGE IMPROVEMENT OVER GTA IV (seriously, what were they thinking with this game... I hated it). Graphics are good, mechanics are good, story line is kick ass, love the characters, cars, customization, MUSIC, etc.

I don't know why some of you don't like it (it's a huge improvement over previous GTA's).. but I guess they can't please everyone, LOL.

i find it annoying when people hate on gta4, that was a kick ass game. with the one exception of the personal and social missions it would otherwise be the game of the year back then.
