It's probably about time - collectively - people got over it...

But obviously you don't have to...

I came in thinking it was a thread about the entire British Press. Not one story that happened 23 years ago. If I lost 'one of mine' there I'd seriously not give a toss what some poxy newspaper said, quite frankly. I'd have something bigger on my mind. The operative word in the front page is 'some'. They didn't bad mouth the dead or ALL of the fans. They printed what was told to them by the POLICE. They talk about 'ticket-less thugs'.
We tend to need to blame somebody.
I can't remember who I thought was to blame at the time.

If you mean the 'tabloids' - me too.
If you mean ALL of the press - me too.
Well, to a certain degree - it's a sliding scale that never reaches truly having full respect for any of them or confidence what any of them print.
I try not to lose too much sleep about it, though.

You cannot hope to bribe or twist
Thank god ! The British journalist.
but seeing what the man will do
    unbribed, there's no occasion to...

I cant recall who wrote that, but I think it's a good rule of thumb... engage with journalists at your own risk.

I speak as someone who was "outed" by the local paper as "encouraging Satanism and Heavy Metal music".

Humbert Wolfe CB CBE, was an Italian-born English poet, man of letters and civil servant, from a Jewish family background, his father being a German Jew (Martin Wolff) and his mother an Italian Jew (Consuela, née Terraccini).

He was one of the most popular authors of the 1920s. He is now remembered for his epigram:

    You cannot hope
    to bribe or twist,
    thank God! the
    British journalist.

    But, seeing what
    the man will do
    unbribed, there's
    no occasion to.
