I am curious about how people ditch meat and meat related products and not relapse/go insane from not having any for so long.

Don't know much about this lifestyle, what constitutes what one could eat and still be a vegan?

I heard that some eat eggs and are still considered vegan is this accurate?

    So many questions...

Some people just get turned off at the thought of eating meat products, just as there are probably certain foods that turn you off. Its not a dietary default that every one craves meat and that any other dietary lifestyle is just a personal sacrifice to avoid meat.

I'm a Vegetarian and I found the longer I've gone without meat, the more when I see it, it just grosses me out.... like, eew, dead rotting flesh.... the idea of eating dead animals just seems so gross now, I'm surprised it never occurred to me before and that it doesn't occur to other meat eaters... like, really.... you're eating a cadaver. a dead body. a corpse.

I gradually started to decrease the amount of meat that I ate, and after half a year I was eating meat once a week and I couldn't finish it because I didn't like it anymore. So I went vegan.
I've never craved meat since becoming a vegan. The thought of it now grosses me out, and I have no desire to ever eat meat again.

As for your other questions, vegans don't eat eggs. Basically a vegan can eat anything apart from animal products.
If you have any more questions, I would be happy to answer :)

Thankfully, eating meat and other animal related 'products' isn't addictive. You don't have to go 'cold turkey' (pardon the pun). It's just a question of wanting not to, and finding other things to eat instead. Simple, really.

Haha, funny you mention addiction :D. I guess meat isn't addictive, but milk (and dairy in generall) actually is.

'Here’s why: the main protein in milk and cheese is called casein. As you digest casein, it breaks apart to release opiates, called casomorphins – that is, casein-derived morphine-like chemicals. Shortly after you swallow a bite of cheese pizza, these chemicals enter your bloodstream and pass to your brain and attach to your opiate receptors.

Casomorphins’ natural function, presumably, is to provide a bit of feel-good sensation to a nursing calf. And because a calf is weaned very soon, the fat, cholesterol and sodium in milk products are not a problem. But humans who get hooked on these same compounds can easily run into trouble as the years go by.' Dr Neil Barnard

    You might be right.
    I'm not a vegan but a veggie.
I've found that I do have a strong urge to eat cheese - but I can go with out it. It's not that I'm lost with out it etc.
I guess we all know, once you start eating a pizza with lots of cheese on it - it's hard to stop. But not impossible.
I guess humans can get hooked onto almost anything.
But I still don't think it is addictive - just REALLY nice, and some people might get a little fixated.
I still think it is a want not a need.

After 30+ years of veg, meat doesn't gross me out, but it isn't "food" to my brain. Kind of like seeing something you really, really don't like on a plate...or something that really isn't food, such as a pile of receipts.

Now vegan is a philosophy that humans don't have the inherent right to use animals (anything in the animal kingdom) for our benefit.
With a belief, it's easier to focus on a longer range view, compared to food cravings of the moment.

And well, mom always said to eat your veggies.

I like the taste of meat. But if I think about factory farming, or how gross my stomach is going to feel about 20 minutes after eating it...that is normally enough motivation for me to give it a miss. :)

Lots of plant foods remind me of meat, dairy, and eggs. Seaweed naturally has a very ¨fishy¨ taste to it, olives taste like pepperoni to me, avocados tastes like cheese, coconut milk (blended up coconut ¨meat¨ and coconut water) looks and tastes like milk to me, and there have been so many times that I have made a vegetable sauce out of things like tomatoes, carrots, and herbs and it tasted like there was meat in it. I have been vegan for over 5 years now and I was vegetarian for quite a while before that. I don´t know, I just don´t get cravings for meat any more.

My brain craves fats, doesn't have to be from animal.
I'm omni but I''m sure I could live without meat and not crave it too much...a little fat is all I need for beans and rice, olive or peanut oil's fine with me.

I've been vegan for over 20 yrs, & was vegetarian for about 20 before.. it's very easy to stop meat, but I couldn't give up dairy without a struggle.. gradually my dairyfree stretches got longer, so eventually it became easy.. you do lose all your cravings for things you once couldn't go without.. I lean towards macrobiotic, as the foods are wholesome & healing..
