I'm new to photography and have a Canon T3i that I'm learning to use. I want to try and learn to do photo shoots and photography of people. It seems like the best way to get good quality shots need the assistance of a speedlight. I don't want to spend a ton of money investing in one and not use it much. Anyone have suggestions for a quality into speedlight that will allow me to take good photos, but not break the bank?
Not much of a photographer, but I suppose you could light things manually with ghetto rig.. get a decent bulb, thick black card to "contain" light, some tin foil wrapped around a flat/concave surface to bounce light around.. and then it's trial and error.. haven't tried it yet, but plan to. I'd say it would be worth saving up though, and do a bit of research for what's a good deal and what's ridiculously overpriced. The problem with photography is that it's very technology dependent.. although you can do awesome shit with average gear, it's very hard to do awesome shit with cheap gear unless you already know what you're doing and can manipulate the "faults".. that's my take on it It also depends on how seriously you wanna take it Have a flick through these http://strobist.blogspot.co.uk/2006/03/lighting-101.html - great info http://speedlights.net/flash-for-canon-ettl-speedlites/ http://digital-photography-school.com/which-canon-speedlite-flash-is-right-for-you
If you can scrape up the cash, the Canon Speedlite 580EX II is pretty sweet! I've got one on my 5D and I love it!
