Learn from someone who knows it. Take a class on it. Buy books and audio cd's etc...

technically, the best way is to be taught it when you are under 4 years old.

get a tutor. one on one is the best way. Get a skype pen pal that wants to language swap. Did you know that people who are multi lingual think differently then people who only know one language. There are many words that don't translate and you can think with them.
Kind of a weird concept but its pretty cool. I know English, some Spanish and a little Japanese, but im not fluent enough to think in any language other than English

Whatever interests you - you gotta put the time in. So whatever can make you do that.

Daily use is pretty helpful too.

Look for Pimsler on the torrent sites , make a visit to Arizona , or any where in the south west USA . Spanish is spoken in many areas of the world , some of the words will vary . Like tomar ( to drink ) its bavar ( cant spell in Spanish eiter) in south America , and Spain .
p.s. to drink beber , drunk borracho a dictionary comes in handy

Knowing several languages will open many doors for you, first of all I wanna congratulate you on your intension.

I've started to learn Turkish on my own, here's what I use for this:
    1) listen to a lot of Turkish Music and try to imitate the pronunciation.
    2) watch many interviews with people I'm interested in. Even if I don't have a clue what they're talking about I just beginning to get used to the sound of the language
    3) learn new words in a context
    4) learn regularly, it's better to spend 20 min every day on learning than 3 hours twice a week
    5) find pan pals
