and don't forget their instincts, something we as people seem to have lost somewhere along the way.

    Of course animals have emotions.

Look how happy Koko is with her pet kitty:

Luckily, by the time they are in my food, they don't anymore.
Bears don't care if their food is screaming for it's dear life; I wouldn't find it very appetizing though.

They aren't unconditional, that's just silly. They are living beings; of course they have reason for their feelings. As situations change, so can feelings.

They love their owners cause they feed them. Stop feeding them, they won't be so loyal.

Many animals lose all connection with their children after nursing.

    Hello, midgard.

Sorry, but I have no clue what it is. I found it on another forum and the OP didn't say what it was. I waited for a long time, but no one ever asked about it.

I couldn't ask the person myself because I wasn't registered on that site.

It looks like a rodent to me. I just thought it was cool looking, and I couldn't resist posting it here. :)

maybe you lost -your- instincts, but i can sometimes tell when a plant is okay to eat just looking at it and i listen to all my bodies subtle cues :p

First, I can't see why your mom would argue with you being a vegetarian. All she should care is that you take the proper supplements and get the nutrients you need.

Second, the fact is that non-ape animal emotions are NOT the same as human emotions, at all. You just posted a bunch of PETA style "cows are highly gentle loving blah blah blah".... maybe you're never actually met a cow? Or a chicken? Chickens are pretty fuckin' nasty animals, most of the time, and we're NOT talking about mistreated animals, either.

Fact is, they don't think like us and their "love" is simply NOT the same as ours. Yes, we get it, animals have emotions, offer to cook fido for dinner and see what they say, etc, but you still just posted a bunch of bullshit PETA propaganda.

Well, depending on their relationship, it could be pretty inconvenient. Also, a lot of vegetarians can be a little demeaning, or a lot of meat eaters can take vegetarianism as demeaning ("you're a savage for eating living beings; look how adorable this cat is"); and that's just in general, so I can imagine it could be pretty hard for some parents to take. It's almost like having a different religion.

Well I do see your point, the OP is pretty aggressively superior about her knowledge of JUST how SMART and SPECIAL animals ALL are.... and her horror that anyone could NOT know this.

Chickens aren't sweet, loving creatures. I have chickens and when one chicken is sick the others suffocate it.
