This article is on the front page of todays national news paper in Canada... .i thought my friends over here in opiate land might be interested here is a link to the National Post article The selling of OxyContin
that the maker of oxycontin lied to doctors and used sketchy marketing practices to sell more pills, which has caused an epidemic of opiate addiction.
No, because they lied to physicians and said that it has a low potential for abuse and that it was less addictive than alternatives, despite having no proof of this.
I would counter that while they knew there was no proof of this, they strongly suspected if not knew that it was a lie. Again, that was the point.... everyone's on dope, THEIR dope.
Purdue. Who the fuck else? Yeah, you can slap them on the wrist NOW, but everyone's STILL on their dope, and has been for more than a decade.
Well, of course Purdue knew it was a lie. I thought you were saying that the doctors knew it was a lie, which they may have... but a free trip to a 5 star resort probably makes that easier to look past). And I assume that it isn't really their dope any more since it has been so long, it must be generic now.
They still sell a LOT of namebrand pills, however. They're the "trusted" ones, despite it being exactly the same chemical. And even if you fine them now, everyone's hooked and BEEN hooked, you can take money but it won't change what they did and how they profited, the CEO's are laughing all the way to the bank, and will continue to giggle right through any legal proceedings.
thats the idea of the government. If they can pit us against each other. we together cant topple the government ..
