Spring 2012 I predict a huge upsurge in the Occupy movement. It's rather unfortunate that it caught fire this time of year. Let's face it, soon the protestors in certain northern cities, including New York and Washington DC, will have to abandon their tent sites as it becomes too cold. Remember the blizzards this past winter? Then in the spring it will be back with a vengeance. In summer there will be fighting in the streets! Anyway, that's my forecast.
As I just posted in another Occupy thread, I watched live as these Alaskans got organized last night in Anchorage to weather the winter weather that's already there. They're gonna go for it! You gotta love them! If they can, so can a lot more ppl across the country.
Yes, some hearty souls will tough it out, but most of the movement will have to take a hiatus. They'll still show up for some demonstrations, but the actual occupations will have to be put on the shelf until spring. Then look out!
Many movements start out non-violent but escalate. One that comes to mind is the anti-abortion movement (for the record, I'm pro-choice). They began protesting Roe Vs. Wade peacefully only to see the number of abortions steadily rise. The next step was Randall Terry and his Operation Rescue campaigns which harassed clinics and their patrons. This led to the further extreme of abortion doctors being gunned down and abortions becoming difficult to get as doctors gave it up for their own safety. Say what you will about those psychos but they achieved success through violence. I fear that the only way to get corporate bloodsuckers to quit fucking us over is if a few of them get gunned down. I hope they wake up before it comes to that.
You know it's kinda funny how when the financial crisis hit, a lot of ppl expected to see executives and brokers flying out the windows, having lost everything. But a funny thing happened... They didn't! Maybe because they already knew they'd get bailed out. It just seemed so unusual that the mucky mucks in the financial industry weren't too worried about all this, especially getting prosecuted for their actions. Nope, their boy Obama got elected and with Goldman Sachs execs advising him, they knew they'd never get arrested or go to court or even get fined a penny for losing TRILLIONS of dollars of wealth. Nope! So why commit suicide when there's so much money to be made even in a depression!
If Oceania, Africa, South America, and the rest of the southern hemisphere started equal or bigger movements, I think the highly populated north would get embarassed and step it up.
My question is how long can you be peaceful and do anything? I personally hate violence...but these guys know that as long as we are sheep...we will "peacefully" protest... While the sit comfortably in their fortresses with nothing actually happening... Unfortunately, I see peace turn into violence as violence never solves the problem but it does change things. It's a matter of getting to the root of the problem...but as long as the "Elite" control the military, police, etc...Then how does one peacefully remove someone from power? Just some questions I have...
The whole idea of bailing out big business was to prevent an economic crash resulting in massive unemployment and a repeat of the great depression, but the executives, lawyers and accountants quickly found ways to take advantage of it. Now they're TOO BIG TO FAIL! And even if they didn't get bailed out their portfolios are so diversified that it would take a worldwide economic collapse for them to lose everything. It's the little guy who's dependent on his job who would lose everything. So why should they play by the rules when they have the people, and the government, by the balls?
Well it appears I was wrong, while occupy is still going on they didn't come back and camp out in the parks en masse. What happened?
the message got delivered , everyone heard . ? so why not camp together in the woods by the springheads and drink of water beyond confusion for urban occupy to survive , it will exist for religious beauty
Your forecast was right about Montreal! During the riots this spring it was warfare at some moments, scariest shit ever (especially as it was all happening in my surroundings). I'm sure I breathed too much tear gas for my own well-being back then, but it was totally worth it as the gvt finally gave up the student fee raise (and that abominable law restricting our right to manifest).
