So, I'm attending my local community college and right now my major is university studies. For any of you that has never heard of that, basically it's a basics program and pretty much declaring a major without having to declare a major. But because of my financial situation I'm trying to declare a more direct major so I waste as little time and money as possible and still get my education. The question is, what? I have so many interests it's hard to know what I'll stay interested in and not get bored or find something else I enjoy more.

However, in observing my every day life, I've noted that all of my spare time has been devoted to health focused things. I pay very close attention to my diet and how my body reacts to certain foods, my calorie intake, exercise (stretching, toning, etc), yoga, and there are two dances I've been wanting to take. Nothing like an unhealthy obsession with size, I just know I feel so much better and value my health. That and I find the body to be a beautiful thing and enjoy the feeling I get when I do all these things.

What I would love to do is connect these two things. I don't want to be a doctor, but I don't know much about degrees in this area. I intend on speaking with my advisor about this and seeing what she says about it, but I wanted to get advice from various people on here that might know something about this.

yoga instructor? Personal trainer? Dietician? Surely there's something that can hold my interest that would be good for me.

    Advice pleeeeaaaaseee?

  2. Hi! I don't have any help to offer. My specialist subjects were horticulture and then many years later international business studies. Since you're interested in food and its effects on your body something along the dietician lines might be good. I'm sure your advisor can tell you all whats on offer in that area. Good luck and hopefully you'll make the right choice or at least something you can live with for the next 3 years or so. ;)

Much thanks, etherea! I'll definitely be looking into that one. I was also thinking something along the physical therapy lines because I know my school has a program for that. I would LOVE to head towards maybe being a yoga instructor. It's just a matter of figuring out the degree path to take in order to get there.

It would seem,Bunnie, that yoga, physical therapy and personal trainer are all intimately connected. Maybe combine all three? There will always be people who need PT, many are interested in Yoga, and people will pay good money for a personal trainer. If you mastered all three and these are your interests,it seems like you could be happy in your work and make good money too. ---------your doing well,I think.

I have a friend that is majoring in holistic nutrition. That could be an option if you can find a school that has something like that.

We could be twins! Our interests are the same. I started out studying english at a school i hated and accrued 22000 dollars in debt... Dont do that :p this fall im starting a program in nursing with a holistic concentration, and if it doesnt work out, i think i'll get my personal training certificate.

I study physics and my only advice is go for it. Study wherever, do what you enjoy, and if you are really lucky you might get a job doing what you enjoy. :)

I've looked into doctor of physical therapy. Not sure I'll score high enough with math on GRE, but I'll take it next summer, if all goes according to plan (I'm working with a tutor. Funny, since I tutor college students in English)

With yr description, I immediately thought of nutritionist.

Here's the odd thing, though. Get a business degree with some marketing aspects. Then train for yoga, pt, or whatever else and be your own boss.
creating a business that blends many holistic methods can be a lifetime fulfillment.

I just had to sit around and wait for it to come to me. I know that my passion is in the environment and helping animals and people in need. We need more people passionate about keeping the earth restored as much as possible, the way it was meat to be for us.
