'old yeller' 'life is beautiful' those are the two i instantly think of, 'brians song' comes to mind. pretty much every horror movie is sad too. how many people were killed needlessly in friday the 13th? see now i am just thinking about the sad parts in comedies and sci-fi movies. i heard 'the notebook' was but i never saw it.
Doctor Zhivago. I saw a 2002 remake which was just so sad......Each and every one of the leading characters ends up dead at the hands of the Bolsheviks. Not surprised that the Soviets didn't like Boris Pasternak.
For sad in terms of that feeling of dread as apposed to feeling heartbreak When it comes to that sense of dread, for me still nothing beats The Andromeda Strain, the music, the 60/70s feel which now makes it look a bit like stock footage and the whole claustrophobia feeling
I'm going to go way back, and if you haven't seen it try to, it's a really good story, but will have you in tears if you have any heart at all. Imitation of Life, starring Lana Turner.
Definitely agree with American History X some others that have got me a bit teary are, Life As A House, The Green Mile and The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas
I agree with some of the old guys: Old Yeller. People dying in movies is okay, but I can't stand to see dogs suffer and die on the silver screen.
Absolutely. When the soldiers show up at the end and the boy is so happy because his dad promised him he would get a tank, oh man I bawled like a baby
