I've read several books about the medical use of LSD on patients who; due to their alcoholism will suffer psychosis by the age of 40 and more than 50 percent were cured with the help of a short time counseling plus the use of acid during their sessions. From every one's own real life experiences what do you think? Also post any of your opinions on other substances you believe are life-changing and could have a strong effect on certain symptoms like how ecstasy might clear up Post Traumatic Stress Disorder etc.

LSD didn't help me stop drinking, I do think it certainly has that potential with the aid of counseling like you mentioned.

I think any of the psychedelics really could be useful for help confronting issues, anxieties and problems when used as such. They are used far too much for recreational or psychonautical purposes to be ever be taken seriously as medicine anytime in the near future by the mainstream medical community, which is not necessarily all bad.

The few that have truly felt like they have therapeutic potential for me:
mushrooms and mescaline cactus: Something about ingesting these amazing life forms just has an element of healing I don't usually get from the synthetics. I don't necessarily prefer them (in fact I use synthetics alot more often) but they both feel very medicinal to me and the cleansed feeling after mescaline cactus is unlike anything else ive experienced on psychedelics.

MDMA: Its easier to work with than most psychedelics. It doesnt require a trained counselor to bounce ideas off of. There is just a constant stream of thought, emotion and positivity to the experience.

2ct2: I think it would be great to follow this up on MDMA. Its a little bit more neutral so the 'happy' realizations of mdma could be put into perspective a bit. Definitely would have to be dosed low though.

Cured me of it. I was a dangerous (to me and others) alcoholic. 1st hit of windowpane--quit for over 20 years.

When I came home from a war I was getting drunk every night and sometimes was violent. As soon as I started smoking mj I quit drinking. Pot was a lot better than alcohol and I just lost all interest in drinking or in being around people who were. I had become a hippie! LSD reinforced all that.

It will change the users mind. And this might help kicking a bad habit.

I think LSD wont work. Many people have said that it won't work.

the poll options are rather limited because while I have no personal experience, I know without a doubt that psychedelic therapy for addiction works. There are literally reams and reams of clinical studies and research on it spanning at least two decades of active research in the 50's and 60's.

really? who are these "many people"?

Because from everything I ever read psychedelic therapy had a success rate magnitudes higher than ANY other treatment for alcohol addiction as well as other types of addiction.
Go read about the work of Humphrey Osmond for starters, he was the one who pioneered psychedelic therapy for alcoholism.

For opiate addiction, Ibogain is said to be damn near miraculous in it's results; often complete change in attitude towards opiates and oneself and, this is the miracle part, often with NO or minimal physical withdrawal symptoms.

Ibogaine specifically targets opioid receptors, so it's really a combination of it's pharmalogical action with it's psychedelic affects which makes it so effective. LSD doesn't target alcohol receptors in the same way, not dismissing that LSD can be effective as well but I don't think it's a parallel comparison.

Oh I wasn't trying to make a comparison, it just came to mind while typing and I thought it relevant to the topic.

LSD therapy was/is conducted over many weeks/months with often many psychedelic sessions interspersed with conventional therapy.
Ibogaine seems to work it's magic overnight or often in just one session, so yeah, any type of comparison beyond general psychedelic therapy is apples/oranges.

Research and clinical trials suggest that ibogaine can cure, or at least HELP to cure, alcoholism, as well as addiction to other drugs; specifically opioid addiction.

What rock have I been under? What is ibogaine? *goes to google but still wants to hear here*

(from first page on google... there are rehab centers that use ibogaine?)--- in any case, I don't really care about that because i'm not sending anyone to a rehab anyway... but if it really is something that can reset opioid receptors in 24 hours that's very interesting to me.

Ibogaine is the primary psychoactive alkaloid in Iboga which is a shrub, the the root bark which contains the highest levels of ibogaine is primarily used by the Bwiti tribe in Africa for rites of passage and healing ceremonies.

The trip of a full dose often extends well beyond 24+ hours and most everything I've heard and read about it suggests it's very hard on the system physically, often vomiting, profuse sweating, etc. And exhibits qualities of a disassociative and more standard psychedelic. It's quite a unique trip from my understanding.

It's illegal in the US, however it remains legal in Canada and Mexico. So some of the practicing ibogaine therapists who are US residents will go across the border for their treatment sessions.

Yeah, I had been kinda hoping it was something I could find to just order online and not need any type of medical person involved for the "treatment" but that's not the impression I got when I looked it up last night. Oh well.
The whole thing does seem really interesting though...that there is a psychedelic that works on opiate receptors directly and reprograms them.

Ibogaine is legal in Italy. You can order it online if you can find a source

    Still looked expensive?
In any case, the people I was referring to needing something like that are already almost past the bad part of being sick and if can make it a little bit longer will be good. :)
HOWEVER, I am keeping it in mind for future reference.. it's nice to know it exists. :)

I highly doubt if LSD will cure alcoholism. It certainly didnt for my boyfriend.

He would drink a lot more while tripping on LSD so did most of his friends. It was something they did to enhance the power of the trip. Which maybe be true or not.
also it depends from person to person. Maybe if you tune your head that way or have a bad feeling about drinking while using lsd, then you might stop. Because I stopped doing a lot of things (for example smoking flavored cigerettes) because when I did them while tripping on acid, I sometimes had bad experiences and hated it. And I never repeated them after that. Maybe it was my mind playing tricks on me but i dont know.

Its worth a try anyways, make sure you respect your body and soul throughout whatever you choose to do.
