Hello everyone,
Just wanted to let people know...
I went to a psychologist to just talk about life issues, going to school, rough patches such as breakups etc. Anyhoo he prescribed me several meds, but neither of us thought I truly needed them but figured they wouldn't hurt...

So Now I tried joining the military and found out

Automatic Disqualification for RX from doctor or any history of counciling

If you plan on joining the military or any government jobs it'll be almost impossible if you see a psychologist and especially if you get RX'd.

I wish my Doc had told me that before he said "it couldn't hurt":eggnog::o:o

That isn't why they disqualified you. The military is far too desperate for people. Everyone in America has had a rX for something. As far as a history of counseling, I also sincerely doubt that. Are you telling me someone who was counseled for being sexually abused at age 12 couldn't serve the military? If it sounds like BS, it probably is. Who told you this?

I believe adforester is correct. I almost joined the National Guard one time when I was fed up with life. I had to sign a medical records release form. If you are on any medications for depression or anxiety they will question it and most likely not let you enlist.

I'm sort of happy they might not be handing out guns to manic depressives.

If you were prescribed meds you did not need, that's an error on the doctor, not you.If you really want to join maybe a second opinion would be a good idea.

once more, the squirrel king speak with un-forked tounge!

i was a psychotherapist for almost 17 years.
i live in "military city u.s.a." (san antonio, texas.)
there are so damn many "crazies" in the military, who should be given a medical discharge, and disablity benefits.
my brother was what would be called today borderline personality disorder yet, during the vietnamese civil war, the goddamn marine corps took him EVEN WITH HIS DOCUMENTED MEDICAL/PSYCHIATRIC HISTORY!
one year later in vietnam, he married three different women, fathered my niece, beat the living shit out of his c.o. and, eat his motherfucking rifle.
this was all back when the u.s.a. government still had a draft.
he did crazy shit like that even before he was in the marines!
one hell of a lot of arrests, one hell of a lot of different drugs (both legal and illegal) and, one hell of a lot of hospitalizations as well!
whoever was the team of screeners, from the marines, who accepted him... TALK ABOUT PETER'S PRINICIPLE IN SUPER ACTION!

yeah, the op is full of bullshit!
the policy is, that the military IS NOT to accept any "sickies."
policy is one thing, what really happen behind the scine is something else.
from your opening post, it sounds like scapegoating because, the real reason you were rejected was, more then likely, you did not have the knowledge or, skill to play the interview game... that is the real reason you got screened out.

go dig up a copy of the book "sweaty palms: the neglected art of interviewing."
better luck next time!:D

:cheers2:..

I never had any long term care before i joined the army, but i was a high school drop out, I did drugs, I had a minor juvie criminal record, i visited a psychologist every couple months cause I was a high school drop out, they didnt do that medication thing in 1980's... I was prescribed medication while in the army for sleep, and pain..
I dont get any psych treatments now, though Im sure I should lol.. but Im cool... I dont need them telling me what they think I might be and bringing up suppressed memories...

Know where I can get a gross of those. I know some folks who sure could use them.:p
Insanity laughs under pressure we're breaking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance
Why can't we give love that one more chance
Why can't we give love give love give love give love
give love give love give love give love give love
'Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves

I would get dq'd for several things, I would try to get in if it was just one or two things

I only have 1 testicle - waiver needed (DQ)

Inhaler use after age 13 (automatic DQ without or with waiver)

History of (temporary) ashma after age 13 (DQ)

Two waivers for 2 medications used within a year
effexor
ritalin

Recent history of Back Sprains (DQ without or with waiver)

Recent and prolonged history of Prostatitis (waiver)

I'm not gonna lie to a recruiter or the MEPS ok.

That being said eventhough I have a lenghy medical history I am EXTREMELY healthy. I run between 3-9 miles a day, lift weights, do Yoga and work as a landscaper, I am currently on NO medications. I think I didn't need any of those prescriptions or to see the doctor for any of those compaints. Well we'll see what happens,

Anyone been in the army on the board???? and made a career of it?

Recruiters and MEPS. Oh Boy.

When I enlisted I gave my entire medical history to the recruiter's NCO (the recruiter was not there and instructed me to give them to his NCO). I know for a fact that I handed those to the NCO. Damn Sgt.!

Well, they never made it to MEPS. I had no idea *I* was to carry them, since I was instructed to hand them to the NCO, I figured he'd know what to do with them.

Got to MEPS, all went well. TOO well. Ok, got signed up, got an MOS I wanted, two months later I get shipped out. Ft. Knox here I come!

I get to Knox, and on the third day while barreling down the stairs for early AM formation, something happened to my knee. Not a pop and not a tear. No previous medical, so I had no idea what was up. I was limping pretty good. Sgt. thought I was full of crap, and after a day of marching all over Knox to get shots and uniforms, my knee swelled up big enough I couldn't pull the pant leg up per request of the medic at TMC.

He ignored it and said I was faking. That evening a different sgt. saw it and said "fuck that, we're going in!" and took me to the ER at Ireland Medical Center. They checked it out, and got me an appointment to see an orthopedic specialist.

That next AM the sgt. (same one that was a penis about it originally) is screaming at me to get my ass to the Capts. office (company cmdr.). I get there and he says I have no medical records to validate the history I told the ER. So I did a consent form, and called family to gather them. Have them faxed. Oooook.

Ohhhh boy.

I finally went to see the ortho (who also turned out to be a surgeon and a capt.), and he wants to O-scope the knee. Made another appointment. His orders- minimal walking, no running, apply heat and do special exercises for that knee. He gave me pills for the pain. I was never provided those pills after the sgt. on duty got them for the med box. Hmmm....

I get back to the barracks and I was under fire big time. They got all the records. I know how much there was, and to me that was nothing. Well, they had the records in a pile there. Again no surprise. But when the capt asked me "would you like me to cut another fucking tree down so we can get the REST of your records, PRIVATE?" I was taken aback. I told him I already gave those to the NCO of the recruiting station.

A couple days later the penis sgt. told me we're going out to do drills (I was with a platoon that was being held back in reception). I told him what the Dr./Capt. said, and he said he doesn't care. Quit faking it, let's go. I said no. He said yes. We're nose to nose and I told him "the ortho is a capt. and he gave me explicite orders. Not you and not our capt. is gonna get me to disobey any orders. If it bothers you, feel free to call the ortho yourself. If he reverses his orders, then so be it. Until then, I ain't going to march." He didn't like that too well.

Two days later I have a "psych eval", and the broad that did that didn't evaluate anything. No idea why I was there, but nothing but yelling at me, getting in my face....damn when she was yeiing I was wiping her saliva off my face (sick bitch). She was fucked inhead I think. I hobbled out, ignoring her. I may be a recruit, but I don't have to take that shit from a civilian. (a-hem)

Capt asks me what happened at the eval and I told him. I said if you want it, reschedule it. I don't have to take that kind of crap from her. No idea WHY I needed it, but, if they want it, lets do it. He called the shrink (that later turned out not to be a shrink after all) and he ragged on me. Turned out it was because of the "discussion with the penis sgt. I told him, a civilian, that if he has a problem with what happened between me and the penis sgt. call the Dr./Capt. and iscuss it with him. He hung up saying he would. My Capt. was shaking his head and said gently "Listen, I know whatthe dr. said, I talked with him as well. I agree, let's get your knee checked out. I know you want your MOS. But you can't go around bucking the system like this. The capt. gave you orders, follow them. But you can't expect others to respect his orders, especially when some people think they're better than everyone else."

A few days later they sent me to JAG, and I had a hard time with that. Four flights of stairs, and my knee was not doing much better. I got up there, they told me "sign these forms", and wouldn't let me read them. I was in pain so I said "fuck it, when I get better I can dispute it then".
Not so.

My appointment to see the ortho was on Dec. 10th. They started the discharge proceedings on Dec. 8th, and shipped me out on Dec. 9th. I found out later that had my knee been o-scoped, since I did not have previous medical, they would have either fixed it or I would have gotten a medical discharge. I had been given a "preliminary disability rating" of 30%. I thought only the VA did that. I dunno where they got it from (I don't remember where I got fit from). Maybe it was true. I have no idea. But I apparently would have been receiving vet bennies because of the injury if it wasn't fixable.

I got my DD214, and never did get all of my medical records. I got a US Senator to help, Criag Thomas (before he died), and the Army pissed him off. I remember sitting there in his office in Casper Wyoming, he was talking to some guy at Ft. Knox, and Mr. Thomas was getting red faced mad. They had given me a personality disorder discharge, but refused to account for there not being a psych eval to back it up. The PD was because I stood firm on refusing to disobey orders.

My grandpa has stood by me all the way on that, telling me "you did what was right. No one has any business making you disobey orders without a damn good reason".

So now, I hobble around. I can hike some distance, but I also know my knees havn't got long until I loose one or both.

Hell, I don't want any bennies, I just want my knees (multiple now, from the damaged right knee) fixed.
