I have to say war movies are one of my most favorite! Nam, have the best soundtracks. WW2, I find a lot of humor in some of them not in war but a lot of them are just funny in genral a part from the horror and cruelty! They also show the real life of war, and Reality that no tv show can really deliver.
best ww2 is not a movie but a ten part series. band of brothers. hands down best thing ive ever watched, war movie wise.
Here is a list of my favorite war movies Avatar (sci-fi) Apocalypse Now Platoon Full Metal Jacket Star Wars (Sci-fi) Green Berets (old school) Casualties of War Starship Troopers (Sci-Fi) Killing Fields Battle of the Bulge (1965) Aliens (Sci-Fi) 1986 Saving Private Ryan (1998) Von Ryan’s Express Chronicles of Riddick (Sci-Fi) Patton Run Silent Run deep (1958) Where Eagles Dare Midway (1976) The Caine Mutiny (1954) Sink the Bismarck Dune (Sci-Fi) 1984 The Great Escape The Guns of Navarone (1961) Desert Fox The Enemy Below Lifeboat Objective, Burma (1945) Sahara (Bogart) Tobruk Sergeant York (WW I) Lost Battalion (WW I) Hotwater
My favorite WW2 movie has to be KELLY'S HEROES it's got a great story line and a fantastic cast,like Clint Eastwood,Donald Sutherland,Telly Savalas,Don Rickles,and Carroll O'Connor.
I have seen some that you have mentioned, but I am not really into war movies. Some of the World War I & II movies I saw as a young man (or boy on early TV) such as: Guns of Navarone Desert Fox Sergeant York (WW I) I saw Sink the Bismarck in theater As well as two Vietnam movies Platoon Full Metal Jacket In fact those were probably the last war movies I saw because it is kind of upsetting to watch. Which is why I never saw Saving Private Ryan
Disturbing or not you must have seen Avatar. I also left out one of my other favorites Tora! Tora! Tora! Hotwater
Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.
Only saw Avatar about 7 times now. I only refer to movies depicting real wars on earth. I left out all the sci-fi war movies. Those do not disturb me like ones that are part of our history or in the case of Nam, my history.
Please tell me that's not the Tobruk (if I remember correctly) with Rock Hudson in it!! The one where Americans defeat Rommel there.
Dammit, this was on TV the other day. I thought about watching it, but I didn't know much about it, so I ended up on HF instead, regretfully
For some reason, I've been wanting to see A Bridge Too Far again. And @ whoever mentioned Peppard...The Blue Max
The Thin Red Line; hands-down the best war movie I've ever seen. One of the only movies I can say has really changed the way I think about the world. The suffering is real, and so is the absurdity. The all-star cast represents about six or seven different paradigms and ideas about war, and about life. It makes Saving Private Ryan look ridiculous
