Have You Used Kratom For Opiate Withdrawal...

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has used the popular exotic herb: Kratom for relief from their opiate addictions.

 

I did, it didn't work well. The potency levels just arn't the same. If you have problems with opiates look into suboxone. It is a miracle drug. Only use it if you are ready to get completely off. Other wise you're wasting time and money. A near by addiction specialist can prescribe it. You must be 18 or older to have it prescibed. Good luck on the road to a better life :]

 

It probably would only work for people who are only mildly addicted. Perhaps if you are addicted to taking like 50-75 mg of Hydrocodone per day, or 200 mg of Codeine, it MIGHT work. But the problem is that the potency of the active opioid in Kratom is so low that in order to counter w/d effects if you have even a 'moderate' addiction, you will experience strong side-effects from the OTHER chemicals in the Kratom plant (and there are a few). So it may be worth a try, but don't expect too much.

 

Correct. Except I think any thing over a 30-40mg hydrocodone addiction would trample over the kratom and make it seems like nothing. Like I said in the previous post. Try suboxone, best medicine out there for getting clean off of that nasty stuff.

 

Yes. Perhaps you are right about the upper limits of the Kratom applicability. Since it isn't really a pharmaceutical product, I don't know the actual 'conversion ratio' unlike the myriad of pharmaceutical opioids.

I was just wondering, since kratom n opiates have totally different alkaloids in them, how kratom helps with opiate withdrawal.

 

Because one of the alkaloids, 7-Hydroxymitragynine, is an opiod agonist.

 

Yes. The reason one gets high from a drug like Opium, Heroin, Morphine, prescription painkillers, and Kratom too, is because these agents contain active ingredients that are "opiOIDs." How they work is as follows: the opioid enters the brain and like a key that fits into only one lock, it "finds" it's specific lock. This lock happens to be one of the various opioid receptors. Naturally stimulated by the endorphins, these receptors can be activated by the opioids.

When the receptors are activated (or agonized) they signal a very complex mechanism that ends up putting the central nervous system into a state of euphoria and calm.
