The world is not given to us from our parents,
it is borrowed from our children.

What it really takes in gatekeeper media, as opposed to social media, is relationships.
If we recognize your name and have some positive association, we will open that email.
Sometimes a phone call helps.
So build relationships.
Have a news peg- relate in some substantial way to a current or upcoming event.
In SF, the news has a lot of the Philippine disaster. So companies with roots in the Philippines have acted on good impulse and started collecting money and materials.
The smartest ones also called the television and radio news rooms. They got area wide coverage. With the telly and radio crossover, they got a lot of coverage.
Alternatively, if your service/product has a relationship to a holiday, sustainability, mothers/Father's Day, graduation, back to school, etc, etc, time your contact about a month or two ahead.
Position yourself as an expert of the moment.
Be able to talk about many options, your product included.
Don't just shill for yourself.
