Yes, the new Microsoft search engine. www.bing.com Microsoft already dominates the hardware and software aspects of the digital world, don't let it become dominant of the search engine industry.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy7Grx3fb2M&feature=related

Microsoft are very anxious to make bing a success. It is evident in their somewhat disturbing television advertisements; search engines never needed to advertise on television (at least in my country) until now. Their desperation is evident. It is a matter of principle. Monopolisation is bad.

But what if you don't agree with me and my anti globalisation views? That is fair enough, there are plenty of logical arguments against such paranoia. But let me explain to you why this is so important beyond what I have previously stated. “Who cares about a new search engine right? Just a funny new name like 'google' or 'yahoo', it dosen't really matter.” I will explain to you why it does.

    1. The advertising revenue. This is pretty straight forward. If you want less money to microsoft then the less page views by bing will be beneficial (at least in a small way) by bringing money to microsoft.

    2. More importantly, search engines have the power to provide unprecedented, accurate information about demographics; what the interests of a certain demographic (say, as accurate as finding what a particular lower-middle class suburb in the UK searches at 8 PM, determined by the IP address) to collaborate with advertisers to target demographics more effectively. This information is very valuable, especially to a pre-existing mega-corporation such as microsoft.

    3. The abillity to censor information. Sure, this applies to all search engines but microsoft has a great existing incentive over self-made search engines to censor unwanted information. I'm sure over time searching on bing for free alternatives to microsoft products (like openoffice, etc.) will be more difficult if bing goes to plan. Also if you believe that piracy is not a moral crime (which there are plenty of reasoned arguments affirming) I'm sure microsoft's interests in media will attempt to put a stop to P2P file sharing and other illegal media sources.

    4. Bing is a really fucking stupid name.

I'm not asking you all to rally in the streets over something as stupid as a fucking search engine, but just to do a few simple things to halt microsoft's hard-on for your information. Firstly, change your home-page/search bar from bing to google or whatever the fuck you want it to be. Secondly, stop using microsoft internet explorer because it tries to make every possible search through bing. It’s screwed up.

I'm not saying google is a saint, but in this case it is the lesser of two evils. If anyone knows a more ethical search engine; I’d like to hear your input.

To summarise: I don't think it is ethical to let an existing company with immense financial interest over the digital world to monopolise the power of the search engine; the gateway to finding information on the internet. I'm just saying small steps you can make in a few clicks of a mouse will make bing less effective. I guess this doesn't really apply if you are not a critic of modern capitalism; in which case ignore this message and do whatever the hell you want.

    it's bad.

they're fucking themselves by producing a product that doesn't work.

the thing is google taught people how to search, so unless they build something that works like google (they won't, they're too proud to, and it doesn't give them enough control.) they'll never have a popular engine.

I am totally behind you on this.

You might like to know that, based on data from my own web sites, Google and Yahoo! account for considerably more traffic than the site which is the topic of this post. And, like you said, just a few clicks and a decision to use a real browser could kill it off completely.

I agree. I never used Bing or Internet Explorer. And when I get a Mac and no longer use M. Office. I will be free of the evil called Microsoft.

BTW everyone at school changes the Bing default to Google and the homepage to Google, because NOBODY LIKES BING.

I also hate their commercials. They are worse than Google not better. They show LESS links than Google. So less stuff you can chose from and less information.

Type in facebook in both. (Even though I don't use facebook)

    Google: 2,650,000,000 results
    Bing: 26,800,000 results

And Bing does show porn, just not as good as Google porn.

I dont know why they try to force people over to Bing, if they were smarter they would just improve their product.

Seems like a guy with 50 billion bucks in his pocket could actually come up with something worthwhile.

I always thought the whole concept of Bing and the commercials were ridiculous. They're calling it a "decision engine" to try and make the fact that they don't have nearly as many results a good thing. They try to say, "See, we cut out all the BAD links so you can get to the good stuff right away!" Well who decides what the good links and the bad links are? With Google, it's the user. The more clicks a link gets, the higher it is on the list. So if it's good, it's going to get more clicks. With Bing, they don't have access to as much info as Google does, so they're just trying to play it off as a good thing.

My son's school computer came with Bing loaded as the default search engine. I hate it more every time I try to look something up for him and forget that I have to go to Google first instead of just typing it into the search bar. We never find what we're looking for until we go somewhere else.
