so there are so many Americans over seas dying in a war and still dying after the war has ended why hasn't anyone tried to do anything? why don't people protest for peace any more why doesn't anyone believe in anything anymore? I think that we need to start another movement instead of just sitting on our asses watching the news and hearing about all the people dying when we could at least stand up and make the government realize its not ok make them pull our troops out the war is over bring our troops home!! does anyone else agree with me???

if you want to talk more u can im me- discosunflower74

well, i tried to stop the war before it even began. could not do it though.
anyway, the war is NOT over. once enough forces are pulled out... then it could be full civil war over there, and then what?
getting into a war is always easy.
getting is always hard as hell, then you need to win the peace too. if you fail at that... it is quite bad indeed!
we never, ever will learn our lesson i quess.

Its cliche. People are dying, but is it all that bad? How many more people can this earth take - population arithmetic demands a massive reduction of population. Where will this begin?

People throughout history have been fighting against war, and will continue to do so. However, so long as the rich corrupt are in power, our voices will not be heard, and even when they are, will not be heeded. However we must continue to fight back, continue to be heard, continue to spread the knowledge. I understand and can relate to your anger dear; thinking about the war, the needless deaths, the unfair laws, all brings me to tears sometimes.

Overpopulation is bad, but that doesn't mean we should encourage random people being killed off. People need to stop reproducing.

Look I've been where you are, I've purposefully made myself watch graphic violent videos of the war, to motivate me to keep trying to change things and to get a more realistic look at it. I am here two years later, with nothing to show, nothing. My idea was meant to motivate you to change things that you can impact greatly in your life. Its not necessarily true that soldiers need to die, ovepopulation is nessecarily true, however, so my POV although seemingly cold, truthful nonetheless, because it gets you to focus your attention to things you can change.

Look man, take this site for example - look how many people view and post things in the "marijuana" section...then compare it to the political ones. An average of ten thousand percent more people are on those threads, things are not possible to be saved, quit trying to change the unchangeable and focus your mind on something that can be changed.

at least you're getting angry. At least you're reacting. At least you're feeling SOMETHING. People are too dissilusioned or justuninterested... everyone is so complacent and feel so helpless, they lie back in their comfy couches, the leather sticking to their sweaty flesh, sutffing their faces full of crap, watching the TV with emotionless expressions... people are becoming stupid and numb.

They have tried to do things but the problem is that the war hasn't ended. The argument that so many are dying is kind of counter to the argument that the war has ended.

Part of it may be apathy and part may be that there are people who agree with me. Probably both, IMO.
Protesting for peace will not deter those out there who wish us harm and death. Nor will it deter those who wish harm and death upon others, including those who have helped us in the past. Those people need us too. We are still fighting Taliban in Afghanistan. Do you not think they will do a great deal of executing of those who saw us as hope and gave us information that helped us reach the point we have? Do you think they will not return to beating women half to death who step out of their homes uncovered and improperly escorted? Do you think they will not return to executing those who do not follow their religion? There is a significant amount of unfinished work over there, very important work if we do not wish a repeat.

But, again, the war isn't over. Four marines were killed today in Afghanistan by the Taliba. You know, those you beat women half to death for not following their strict guidelins and becoming houseslaves just to name one terible thing they do...
But, by all means, do as you wish.

    No. I am afraid not.

I believe I will decline, but I appreciate the offer nonetheless.

Edit Note @theOP: This forum is activist messages rather than political discussion, so perhaps I should not have made as if it were a debate. My apologies, and if you wish, I will remove the content of this post. Just let me know if that is wished.

You cannot fight an ideology. It is impossible because the ideology is a way of interpreting what occurs in a persons life. You have thus completely over-looked how our bombings and mishaps killing thousands of civilians in month, fuels ideological violence, in short, how our efforts have created terrorism from normally half decent people.

I know afghan's they are not all women beaters and violent. The majority of them actually are very peaceful and respectful of women. Your examples are shortsighted and narrowly scoped, have you been acquiring information from mainstream media sources? Have you questioned if our violence is a cause of a majority of the problem? the mainstream media never assembles information like this, hardly points it out and emphasizes the very same events(that I do not deny exist) to the point where many imagine that all Afghanistan is like this. What if these stations constantly emphasized the mass murders and suicides occurring to our youth. So a soldier gets killed and this sad drama is emphasized extensively over and over, yet when something like Virginia Tek massacre occurs, where is the repetitive coverage? One word, profit and the need to propagate war in order to make profits.

    Yes, you can.

    No, I have not.
They were running operations out of the country which killed thousands of Americans. That was before we invaded to remove the Taliban. They cannot do that now. They were teaching children to hate us even then and while they were giving sanctuary to those who would (and did) kill thousands of Americans. There are a whole lot who are thankful for the freedom that they have now. Plus, your Afghan numbers on how many we kill in a month are wrong.

So, women were freely allowed to walk around in public, receive full education, and hold political office while the Taliban held power. The examples are not short sighted and narrowly scoped. They are examples of what happened while the Taliban was in power. Even if a lot were good people who respected women (just exactly what that means is open to interpretation by itself...) it did not stop the Taliban from pushing their tyranny upon women. The 'good people' of Afghanistan were helpless to stop the Taliban from placing their restrictions upon women. Of course, those who opposed the Taliban are the ones we fought alongside to stop them. I like that 'oh you have been acquiring your information from mainstream media sources' bit. Obviously, in your mind a media source is incorrect unless it places blame on the US.

Yes, I have and I find that argument woefully lacking in support.

Information like what? I am still waiting on it.
No, they do not cause many to think all Afghanis are that way. I never said or implied that all or most Afghanis were that way. I also know of no one who feels that way. The "people think all Afghanis feel that way" idea is merely a device to turn the discussion away from those Afghanis who do feel that way: the Taliban. Reread my post, that blame was placed upon the Taliban and not all Afghans. Funny, how none of this post being replied to actually takes into account anything that the Taliban did or still does.

I am not sure what this is specifically referring to but I believe it will be addressed in a moment.

Where is the repetitive coverage? Virginia Tech was on all day every day for hours and hours and days and days so I am not sure what the complaint is here. Unless you are saying that US soldiers are doing that. If so, please elaborate and support with facts that are not from a media outles whose purpose is to say bad things about the US. I can just as easily argue the corruption of media giving your side as you can with the media giving the other side. However, our media has a far better record of telling the truth even if you think it is not a good record.

    Finally...
There has been absolutely nothing in this thread to show any type of link to this war and profit. That is a baseless and insulting accusation. Defend it with facts. Just throwing slogans around does nothing.

tiedyeponcho you're close to DC and there was a Tea Party up there over the 4th of July weekend and there are many other marches/protests going on there and around the country. one of the most active is the ANSWER. there are many groups that are trying to make changes to the federal government so things like unprovoked wars and other attrocities don't happen. my last march was in DC in 2007 and while there were some highly vocal people there , it was only moderately attended. at the time 60% of US citizens were against the war and to protest less than 10,000 showed up. to put this all in an historical perspective, when the American Revolution began less than 5% of the population was behind but we all know that eventually there was much more support. i see more people waking up to the ugly truth that is Amerika everyday. it does take a while to get folks motivated though. in the meantime, educate yourself and talk to as many people that will listen. get involved because it is going on.

i agree with you whole-heartedly :) the system that most of the populations of the world live under (what with globalisation underway) is Capitalism... there are alternatives to Capitalism.... before Capitalism, there was Feudalism... that ended with ol' Charles losing his head... Capitalism grew and thrived... you can't just get rid of something without there being an alternative....

    alternatives, as i see it....
    1) we go back to a nomadic state - this will happen naturally if/when nature "vents her wrath" inorder that balance prevails...

    2) we use everything we have learned to build a new ideology that does not make "PROFIT" the working goal... that would mean that everyone would have to understand more about the world they live in, and have a say in what happens... we have media and education structures just waiting for change...

i can't see any other alternatives at this juncture, but what i do know is that people have to do something with their lives on a day to day basis... what ever that is, it needs to be for the benefit of mankind as a whole and not to serve a system that creates profits for the few... profit has served as a god for a long time... this will eventually change, i hope :cheers2:

p.s. a general strike en masse would go a long way to bring the present power structure to it's knees... it would be great if people only realised the power they have... peace

ok, lets take Iraq for example, as soon as the US troops arrived , many many insurgents flocked to Iraq from allover , not just from the ME, they went there to fight the American soldiers and marines, most of insurgents planting bombs and fighting, were not Iraqis, and many are still there, so pulling out will not be fair on the Iraqi people, you cannot pull out and leave them to deal with this matter alone, finish what you began first.

    Just a quick example*

    unjust- Vietnam
    Just- - WW2

    unjust- war(s) going on now

Just because these conflicts start off with all kinds of support, doesnt mean the support doesnt wane* different situations come up either justifying the end or expediting the means to the end

Of course the most unjust thing is the innocents-caught in the middle. They always take the hit for the guys in the suits calling the shots.- whether it was the jews in nazi Germany, the Vietnamese dodging napalm, or the people in the middle east dealing with random bombings.
Its a sad thing that after centuries of wars , the human race continues to go the way of violence instead of communication.
Im not so naive to think that we will ever be on a planet without a war going on somewhere- - but I do think much can be avoided without the genocide of Cambodia,s killing fields in the early 70,s to the genocide thats happening now in the Sudan & Danfur*

The just & unjust - the necessary & the unnecessary, there is no more category to go by, its all just merged somehow. This brings nothing but confusion, hate and heartache to all.
