Below are some excellent clips featuring retired school teacher (former New York City & New York State Teacher of the Year) and author, John Taylor Gatto, whose work deals with the nature of modern-day schooling how it works to destroy individuality and free will.

Where are poor supposed to send their kids to be educated?

I am the product of California public schools in the fifties to the sixties and State colleges in the 70s and 80s. I had to pass a constitution test in eighth grade before graduating, I can think for myself. What's changed?

we're not rich and I homeschool my kid. I know it's not for everyone, but I think more and more people are doing it.

Luckily, there are still kids who come through the public school system with some of their dignity intact.

Personally though, I rather not take the risk with my own kids. And how would you ever know how much richer a child's life could have been had she not been messed around with by the public school curriculum?

Anyhow, love the book "Dumbing us down", so compelling.

oh yeah, another not-rich-at-all, yet still successful unschooler. my husband is the only bread-winner in our family and he has no career job or college degree. he's working an entry-level job but has been for some time and making somewhat decent pay. of course, hours are long to make up for my lack of income, but we make do. after all, decreasing the average family income was the hidden agenda behind the government/industry backed feminist movement a few decades ago. Work two for the price of one.
