Do you think pink floyd would have been better if they kept syd barret? Or do u think it was a better idea putting him out of the band? To be honest i liked syd's work, i like most early pink floyd stuff, anything before wish you were here
Syd may have been a musical savant of sorts but Floyd wouldn't have been able to go that big without kicking him out. He was one fucked up cookie.
I have all that pink floyd have released either on lp or cd . I enjoy all of it both with syd and roger and with out them . I also have what has been released on dvd as well . youtube is a good place to see some of there music clips . Enjoy . Peace and long life Bruce
I have 25 CDs of 60s-era Floyd. If Syd had kept it together, and kept his place in the band, they wouldn't have recruited David Gilmour, they wouldn't have written songs about madness and loss - which means no Dark Side Of The Moon, no Wish You Were Here, no The Wall. Without those albums (assuming they stayed together with the 1967 line-up) they would have stayed a small cult band. Which means most current Floyd fans would never have heard of them.
i loved syd, but i think it was worth him leaving to get dark side. one of the most epic albums of all time. and i love wywh, infact i love all floyd, not so much post waters though.
I think of the three major periods of Floyd, that the stuff with Waters minus Barret was the best, then the stuff with Gilmour and no Waters was second best, and sorry, but the stuff with Barret comes in last.
I think that Pink Floyds did have its own eras, it was time when there was syd. And in that time it was psychdelic rock, but after that Pink Floyd did little bit tried to look what they would do next and everything was quite experimental... It did took long time to Pink Floyd to recover of Syds leave... Dark Side of the moon is totally something else what Pink Floyd was at beginnign...
They made another five great albums without Syd, before they made Dark Side Of The Moon. Most bands don't make five albums in their entire career.
I love Pink Floyd, but I really don't like the stuff they did when Syd was in the band. I mean, he wrote a few decent songs, but I really dislike his lyrics, they are too simple for me. I also think that David Gilmour brought the musical part of Pink Floyd to life, with his laid back guitars and such- I mean that's the main reason I listen to them.
Its really weird because growing up, I never was a fan of pink floyd and my mother is a HUGE pink floyd fan. However, over the past couple of years I have grown to really enjoy some of their work.
i love/loved syd barret but i think that the band wouldn't have gotten as far, that guy had a crazy mind
Man I loved the band with and without him. But I suppose it just wouldn'tve been the same had he stayed. Dark Side is my most favorite album of all time.
Loved both too. Syd leaving was the right decision, though very hard at the time. Personally prefer Wish You Were Here.
Hmmm, for me, a favorite album is extremely difficult to choose.... Atom Heart Mother? Obscured By Clouds? Meddle? Darkside of The Moon? Animals? Wish You Were Here? I enjoy them all the same.
Just recently I looked into the earlier works with Syd Barrett. I really enjoyed it but as most of the others said here I don't think the band would have gotten so big or well-known (for its music anyway and not the antics of the lead singer) if it had kept Syd on. I really do like the later music better with Roger Waters and David Gilmoure so I definitely say that fate took care of this band just fine
