sterility is key google the PF-Tek. pretty fool proof if you follow it correctly. also, there is no joy like eating the fruits of your labor
so easy to do and pretty quick too. It will turn into a great hobby!! I agree that the PFtek is the best way to start!!! the oics below show some cubies that were grown using the pftek. The strain is keepers creepers.
Check out fungifun.org great site. Also, if you can get a pressure cooker, skip the PFTek and go straight to grains. You will get much better results.
register a forum account at www.shroomery.org and spend as much time reading TEK's and other peoples methods as you can. I spent 3 months researching before attempting to grow and it really paid off, then again nothing teaches you better than first hand experience. also, The Mushroom Cultivator by Paul Stamets is like the mushroom growing bible
i 2nd everything meatwagon has said. i like using grain better than cakes, just me. much easier to keep a steady flow of some fabulous fungi
spawn to bulk. mycobags + syringe is all you will need to start off. then find a good bulk substrate/tek . PF cakes suck. if you are gonna grow mushrooms why not grow a fuckload?
I'm thinking about growing my own now that the online vendor has stopped selling them. I might have a look at growkits while I'm in Amsterdam this month. Because that's how you end up in prison for a long time.
growing will end you in prison for a long time period. it doesn't matter if its a tub or a few cakes, its manufacture. at least in the US.
