I just got back from the etweetersquhanna center in Camden...
    Pearl Jam was amazing...
Eddie came on and first thing he said was "I was told that there's no curfew around here, so it looks like we can have some fun..." They then procceded to play from 8:30 till 12:30... It was incredible... they played some rare stuff like Rats and "U" fantastic so much emotion. They get on stage and leave every drop of effort up there.

They played Love Reign O'er Me

a fantastic cover. I thought (god forgive me) that it was better than the who's version... very much like when Johnny Cash covered "hurt" Pearl Jam owned the song.

I love so much about the who, but late in there career they started messing about with 80's style synthesizers in everything which was hit or miss for me (music in general in the 80's makes me cringe) Love reign o'er me, the who version doesn't seem to have the warmth or the feeling behind it that it's been shown now it could...my feelings... same with NIN and hurt.

Uhm... well sure you can feel that way, but uhm... The Who where never 80's, Pete Townshend was a synth Pioneer inspired by Terry Riley, the things were as big as rooms, and it was brilliant, nothing like the synth Pop from the 80's. in fact Pete did this a full 10 years ahead of that! and among with Pink Floyd the first to do so successfully.

Terry Riley also did an album with John Cale..worth looking into!

In fact those tracks Won't get fooled again and Baba O'Riley are hailed as among the greatst masterpieces in rock 'n roll history... In fact Pete predicted the crappy 80's sound before it took off. Love reign o'er me is part of Quadrophenia , you should hear some of those songs live, Pearl jam Pales in comparison...and i love Pearl jam don't get me wrong;)

Your right, I checked the date, it's not the 80's, (but he is using sounds in love reign over me in particular that i feel like will be used later on in the 80's) I do have all the who albums including quad... It's just that unlike Baba O'Riley and Won't get fooled again, the synth on Love Reign sounds thin, in fact the whole song in its original format sounds thin to me... not as big and as thick as Baba O'Riley... I also have several live albums, and that particular song I don't believe sounds as full, even live... I tell you about this because I assure you my personal taste is not based on an ignorance of the Who catalog or some distaste of the Who in general... but in particular I find that this song has been redone better, which is a rare occurrence.
Even when Pearl Jam covers other who songs, I don't think they usually have the same punch or intensity as the original, but I believe, that this cover fits them so well that they have actually surpassed the original...
Like my original comparison, I like a lot of NIN original songs, but Johnny Cash's version has made me hear the song in a new light, and it is hard for me to listen to the original anymore as it sounds lacking and less emotional...

My Album list in my ipod... (I have a good bit of live bootlegs, but they were the first to go when my pod got full up... the quality isn't the greatest)

btw I will look up the Terry and Cale thingy.. Though I only saw John Cale once in college, and he was playing songs on acoustic, not violin like in the VU so I don;t know what to expect from his solo work...
