well i grew up on the only commune i know of...its on sand creek road in drain oregon..lived there for like 5 years until my parents moved me into sucky city and town life.
You might want to check out Alpha Farm , near Florence Oregon. It used to be a share everything sort of community. They had jobs for everyone at their restaurant and the mail service for the area. They are worth checking out.
