I too believe that every child needs to be safe while on the internet or anywhere for that matter, this is where parental education on the matter is the most important of all. the kids are very smart and a lot of them figure out ways around the protection devices, proper parental education and technical devices are the best that can be done for the children. Here is also another sad thing that i have heard of happening, some of these girls say for example 15, 16, 17 look like they are older than 18, my point here is i can see too how alot of adults trying to look at legal adult porn could by accident stumble on too underage people and download it when they go to some of these adult sites. Makes you wonder how many people too are behind bars because they could not tell that the person they were viewing was underage. I personally have zero tollerance for child porn, or any kind of child abuse.

My four 8 year old grandchildren just got popped for watching "naked twerking", one on their phone and the other 3 on their tablets. I haven't gotten a detailed list of what they watched; Grandpa just passed along that it was "naked twerking videos".

You all have posted some good info here so I'm part of the thread now to keep up to date.

My strategy is white listing. My four year old uses a separate Wi-Fi network. My router will only resolve about 15 websites forher network.

Also teaches kids more about computers when they try to beat this stuff ... so i say if they beat it make it a little harder and maybe they learn more if they can beat that. I remember one time my parents tried installing some crap, i installed a keylogger on their computer ;)

I was a little older than 4 though ... only thing about computers i remember from being 4 were 5 1/4" floppies and pretty green monochrome graphics, wondering how the floppy disk could make this happen, and that's about it really (i'm sure these computers were obsolete for the time, computers were expensive back then).

Google has been developing an AI that empowers the individual to dial all the flames up and down at will. The AI literally rewrites content in less offensive terms. Sadly, they are only developing this due to their own customers demanding it, because they know perfectly well that internet trolls actually increase website traffic. My point is, we can expect to see a great deal more technology like this that makes the issue history.

The problem is that we will have to get our children to explain it to us and give us access to the filters. LMAO

These programs can all be combined with personal assistants, such as Amazon, Microsoft, etc. and the machine can explain every detail in plain English, or you can just tell it to adjust the program however you like.

    I
I build state of the art computers, but once I have installed the operating language and office software, a red mist comes down and I leave it to our daughter to set up the internet programs. Last year, I was unable to install a cad update and when I asked one of the IT guys to help, he informed me that our daughter was the administrator and she had not given me authority to install or amend programs. LMAO.

Then you know the blessings of working with digital computers, which are much easier to correct for errors than human beings.

I use computers and calculators on very rare occasions and still verify everything in my head or on paper. CAD is something that I rarely use, only in the first stages of design. but mostly give up on, simply because digital design cannot produce something that someone else has not programmed into the files.
Can you imagine attempting to design the plasterwork, carpets lighting and seating for this renovation on a computer.?

Actually, I'm attempting to build a distributed computing fully interactive ray traced vr interface capable of modeling both Relativity and quantum mechanics. However, for it to be used for something like that would require a mature version of the technology, which awaits next generation computers capable of crunching the numbers. Using 64-96 arithmetic accelerators running in parallel I can provide the necessary complexity to model fractal geometry as indivisible from continuum physics. It requires enough funky nonlinear temporal dynamics to blow both Frank Zappa's mind and speakers but, for me, it just requires a ridiculous amount of editing and a simple adaptive AI approach using a Mind Maze headset.

I learned basic on a TI99a, but I hear python is fun. Shockwave Rider by John Brunner was prophetic, except this mess will require generations to sort out, because the left hand literally has no clue what the right hand is doing.

Clearly for the type of applications that you mentioned, computers are a valuable tool, allowing you to apply a complex formula to multiple applications. You see my point, that a tool is all that a computer is, rather than a magic box.
You can therefore see that spending hours programming a computer with all the details of the building drawings that I posted would be pointless for a one off application.
Unfortunately, computer have led to younger people today not understanding the basic principals of maths and engineering. A few months ago, a guy who I was working with used a calculator to multiply a number by 10. He could not understand why I burst out laughing.

LOL, that's where everyone gets it wrong. You could call me a modern day Shaman, mother nature speaks to me sometimes in plain English. I know her language, and she insisted I pay my karmic debts, because I turned down fame and fortune, insisting it was boring and I'd probably just screw it up, not to mention, the rich and famous have never impressed me. Those people are nuts!

What modern science is about to discover is what half the world calls "The Mother of All" and "Great Void" from whence all the myriad good things doth spring forth and, of course, its all good until someone says its not. One African tribe wryly sums up the human condition insisting, "Mother Nature's love is irresistible, but she has a wicked sense of humor!" That's the foundation of both analog logic and quantum mechanics. I can give you the specific equation, which a multifractal of a Fractal Dragon emerging from a Mandelbrot. The implication is that modern civilization will encounter more macroscopic manifestations of quantum mechanics, sometimes on enormous scales, the more efficient our technology becomes. As one example, my mother once asked me about an "echo" she heard on the telephone, but from the future, as if a record had skipped, repeatedly.

I'm just trying to speed things up a bit, because I'm sick to death of all the lowbrow slapstick. So I decided to build a high tech version of a rabbit hole to Wonderland, after I spent seven years shuffling all the metaphors. Being brain damaged, sometimes has advantages, that and the fact I inherited the Socratic tradition from my father are why Mother Nature insisted I got the shitty job. She knew damned well I could not resist. For over nine months masters of every persuasion supplied me with the metaphors, and I wrote up to six poems a day.

I've been an agnostic skeptic and fan of Isaac Asimov my entire life. Normally, I'm not the quickest to catch on, but I decided when I was three years old that Babylonians are just nuts, and I would have to figure this one out for myself. Never considered myself artistic and almost never wrote poetry. After accomplishing the first 50 impossible things, you start to get the idea.

This is Nvidia's latest demo of ray tracing, but you can rest assured this was not rendered on their consumer video cards. Note that like ordinary graphics today, the use of a mask and suit like this character has simplifies all the geometry and shadowing, as does merely having a single character and two robotic arms to render, while the ray tracing can focus on reflections simultaneously, improving the frame rate. Rendering a scene like this requires an outrageous number of gigarays and Nvidia has already admitted that this level ray tracing for consumer markets lies in the future. What should be fun to look for over the next five years will be videos like this one demonstrating new uses for the technology in video games, including for physics and AI applications.
